The only surprise here is that I have not heard of an already developed widescreen mod for nwn. Other than that it is a standard Beamdog, with xmas coming up they probably need the free cash injection.
Yeah, I'm not very enthusiastic about this announcement. The meat of NWN are not the official campaigns but the modding community. If this edition will break modding compatibility there will be nothing "enhanced" about it. I really hope it won't, and that they won't remove the original Diamond Edition from stores if it does, because otherwise this is going to be Good News (tm), aka a death certificate for the game.

Also, the teaser/trailer is pretty pointless at this stage, since it tells us nothing about "their" product. All I see is footage from the old game, no enhancements, no promises of enhancements. A real enhancement would be more quickslots in general and more quickslots in a row, or better textures and models (if that's possible without breaking something), but I wouldn't be surprised if they don't change anything substantial and still manage to break it. We'll see.

EDIT: I wonder if this is true though, and if so, how they managed to do it: "Neverwinter Nights: Enhanced Edition includes the base game, along with Shadows of Undrentide, Hordes of the Underdark, Pirates of the Sword Coast, Infinite Dungeons, Wyvern Crown of Cormyr and two soundtracks." (Source: Kotaku). Not that it would make a big difference.

Some more infos, taken from a GameInformer article:

" Improved Display: Your portrait, combat bar, inventory, and other UI elements adjust in size based on your chosen resolution including 1080p and 4k.

Advanced Graphics Options: Pixel shaders and post-processing effects make for crisper, cleaner visuals. Enable contrast, vibrance, and depth of field options as preferred.

Community Endorsed: Original developers have teamed with key members of the Neverwinter Nights community to curate important fan-requested improvements to support players, storytellers, and modders.

Backwards Compatibility: Works with save games, modules, and mods from the original Neverwinter Nights. A galaxy of community created content awaits."

I still don't see anything that would justify increasing the price to 200% though (it's said to cost $20).

Oh, you could add in Blizzard and R* to that list, plus others.

Thank you Lilura for the only positive and intelligent post. Neverwinter Nights was, and still remains, the greatest D&D computer game ever made. Yes Baldurs Gate 2 had the best campaign and Planescape Torment had the best story, but NWN 1 had the best engine and game creation system by far. Aside from the included campaigns there were hundreds of player created games and mods to play, plus it was the only option for being a DM and controlling a multi player D&D game. It is without a doubt the best choice for an enhanced edition remake. And for all these other naysayers, if you don't want it, then don't buy it, very simple.
Really unexpected this one. Outdated 3D engine, that trailer does not look to enhance anything... Icewind dale 2 would have been more logic here.

Let's wait up what kind of Enhancements they've putted 1st. If all they ddi was add few extra effects, UI scaling and won't have premium modules while charging you 20$........

I think it's just not worth it, then again people who wanna get the original one will be forced do buy this with no option to buy it separately.

Hey, stop being so negative, you guys...

I really hope for nwn1 ee because nwn1 does not work on my win10 laptop, and no - "it works for me" - it does not for for me. I love original saga, sou and hotu and I will definitely cash full price upon it's release... Sorry guys, modules comes and goes and are recreated.... so I really like this news....

I would also love IWD2 EE, but there's no original source code...
So if you want the original for a bargain, get it during the winter sale since it will probably disappear after the "enhanced" shows up, and that one will be probably a lot more expensive.

Well, duh.... I already own both nwn1 and nwn2. But I would definitely cash for original if I did not have one, since I love original graphics... and for some reason they are changing it.... hope they don't change edition of the game...

It isn't as simple as that if they remove the original version from stores, like they did with other games.

I understand your point about the old version not working for you, but this is really a naive thing to say. These days very few people still work on releasing high quality modules for NWN, and a great treasure trove of huge classic campaigns that took years to create would be lost without backwards compatibility and not recreated by anyone.

Anyway, they said the EE would offer backwards compatibility, so let's wait and see.

I don't think anyone one GOG who had an interest in it has to buy it yet. I still have a freebie code for it, and so do many others, but there aren't any takers here anymore. Maybe after the release of the EE that will change, at least. ;)
