For me it's not a problem, I already own the Diamond Edition, I'm just trying to explain the point that lostwolfe made. But sure, I guess if the DE would be sold bundled with the EE for the same price that the DE costs now, not having the option to buy the DE separately wouldn't bother most people anymore. ;P

(The price is not just "likely" to be increased, you can be sure of that. They won't sell the EE here for half the price that it already costs on Steam.)

That being said, it *is* quite an abstract discussion, based on principles and what-if-hypotheses. At this moment in time, almost everyone here with a real interest in NWN DE should already own it, and those who argue for the benefit of future customers can't know whether these customers will actually think the same way about it or not. Doesn't make the arguments invalid, just rather theoretical.

So let's see...

Gog starts a business by bringing back old titles... doing lots of work on them to get them to work on current operating systems, gets the rights from publishers to sell them (probably mainly because those holding the rights figured they were mostly done selling anyway) and bang boom pow wouldn't you know it the business is successful.

So now that publishers realize there's money in them thar old games... well let's not sell them anymore as standalone where because they're old they need to sell cheap... nope...let's "remake" them, charge a higher price, and therefore make anyone who wants the old game pay more.

Gee. Never saw that coming.

I notice we have this same exact discussion every time Beamdog brings out a new game....

I think a lot of the hate for Beamdog is way over the top ,,we have a couple of people.who will probably show up in the official announcement thread tomorrow....who seem obsessed by their hatred of Beamdog. I
But I think one legitimate criticism of Beamdog was...in a couple of their early enhanced editions...they included changes to gameplay...basically they added a number of encounters anc charecters who were NOT in the original releases...a major change ot the original. And there was no option to exclude those and sticke to just the classic version. That the new material was inferior to the original material did not help matters. And when they tried a full scale new module for BG II it was something of a disaster. Beamdog rightly was blasted for those decisions.
But Beamdog seems to have learned their lesson,and have not included new material in therir last couple of releases.

Normally I'd complain that this is something that should be announced on the front page, but with the new layout I guess GOG managed to make that complaint moot, since the news aren't really much more visable now than a forum thread :P

Is there any chance that the extras such as soundtrack , artbook, manual etc. will be removed from our account if we already own the game?

You must have been lucky enough to avoid the shitstorm regarding Beamdogs previous releases.

The classic game is $9.99, there are also lots of extras included free, notably the soundtrack.

Beamdog releases the "Enhanced Edition" where changes are minor or can be added with free mods, charges $20 for it, then charges $9.99 for the soundtrack separately.

You don't get a lot of value for your extra $20, that's only one of the reasons why people hate on Beamdog

If you haven't noticed, modders can only improve a game so much without having the source code. Further, the revised premium module Darkness over Daggerford was in an unpolished state before receiving the treatment it needed from Ossian-Beamdog.

It would be fair if you only said that you didn't think the improvements didn't justify the price tag, but you stated "changes are minor or can be added with free mods". That statement smells like an outhouse.

The multiplayer component remains to be seen, I'll give you that but everything else you've said was about improving visuals, which are NOT WORTH $20.

My comment about mods holds true for BG1, BG2, IWD. As for NWN EE, we'll see. Beamdog did seem to do well making sure PST EE got a stable release (At least thats what the reviews say, I don't have the game so I can't say anything from first hand experience) so maybe they'll do it again with NWN EEs and mod support will work great. But I reiterate, we'll see.

Well on the bright side (at least for me since I'll be happy to see the wishlist entries completed), we'll get those modules that were missing, right? Pirates of the Sword Coast and co.?
