Hello guys! I have already played and finished the neverwinter nights series and I love it.. I want to try something new and I've heard of the game named "Neverwinter" I mean have any of you guys try it out! Since there is no such game on Gog, I do hope there will be one in the future. Perhaps in the meantime, do you have any idea where can I find one I would like to try it out!

You got all the way through the 1st two NWN games?
How long did it take you?
Neverwinter is a free-to-play MMO, and as such it's highly unlikely to ever be featured on GOG (since it would require a 3rd party account, always online connection, possibly micro-transactions, all of which is in opposition to GOG's USP). I haven't played it myself, so I can't say how much it's actually related to Neverwinter Nights and D&D, apart from the name. If you want to try it, you can just register and play or on [url=http://store.steampowered.com/app/109600/]Steam.

Out of curiosity, what is it that you liked most about the NWN series? The setting (Neverwinter, Forgotten Realms) or the gameplay (RPG, real-time with pause)?

Games like Neverwinter Nights?

D&D games from the same era
Baldur's Gate 1&2
Icewind Dale 1&2
Neverwinter Nights 2
Planescape: Torment
Temple of Elemental Evil

Non D&D games made to be like those games
Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic 1 & 2
Pillars of Eternity
Dragon Age Origins
Arcanum of Steamworks and Magic Obscura
Btw, I'm aware that you wanted to try something new and different, but in case you have only played the official campaigns of Neverwinter Nights 1 & 2, you do know that there are tons of free high quality custom modules for NWN1 (and possibly 2), right? many of them are just as good or even better than the official campaigns. Have you played the Aielund Saga for NWN1, for example?
Yeah, the Neverwinter game is an MMO and shares nothing in terms of gameplay with the Neverwinter Nights series. I don't think it has anything to do with D&D at all other than the name. It might be decent MMO, if you like those, I can't speak to that not having played it myself. But if you're looking for something like Neverwinter Nights I think Dragon Age Origins (though not based on D&D rules) is your best bet, at least among games here on GOG. I'd highly recommend the Drakensang series too, but unfortunately it's not on GOG. You may give the Blackguards game a look, Drakensang and Blackguards are both based on the Dark Eye tabletop RPG. Drakensang is the better of the two, but Blackguards is here on GOG.

i've played it for about three to four months including some custom campaigns... It may seem longer since there is school which took the most of my time playing the game..

Well, I have already played a few custom modules for NWN1.. Like the kingmaker, shadowguard, the witch's wake, the pirates of the sword coast and fester pot's the auren society of weavers such as almraiven, shadewood, and the 3rd one is still in development... Perhaps I've never tried any custom campaigns on nvn2 unless if it's worth a shot.. :-)

Hi there, Neverwinter is an Rpg Mmorpg although it's free, It requires an internet connection which is quite a drawback if your into offline games like the Neverwinter Nights series.. There are other games here on G.O.G which are classified as D&D Rpg's that is somehow related to Nvn1 and 2 like the Blackguard series.. Although there might be a chance for an online game to be released on G.O.G, the chance is very slim..

Furthermore, If you want to play the game "Neverwinter", if the internet connection does not bother you, You can play the game on steam.. here - http://store.steampowered.com/app/109600/

The premium modules are not what I meant by custom modules, although I guess they are, technically, but they aren't as impressive as some of the free modules out there. Still, if you have played Almraiven and Shadewood, you already know what I'm talking about. :)

I don't know much about custom campaigns for NWN2 either, sadly. NWN2 does quite a few things better than NWN, but also several things worse, and I always felt a bit more comfortable with the first game. The few custom modules I've tried to play weren't engaging enough to change my mind about that, but I guess I haven't dug deeply enough yet.

What's the catch, or is there a catch? Extra weapons cost money. you have a very limited inventory unless you pay up, etc.? Ie. how feasible it is to really (I mean, really!) play it for free?

Just curious, that's all.

Yes Neverwinter is free to play.. But I forgot to mention about purchases ..What I truly meant is you can still play the game for free without spending anything, Purchases are optional...
Neverwinter is a MMORPG like others mentioned and it is nothing like NWN series. I played it and became level 50 in 1 day only without reading a single line. As someone who loves reading every single detail in RPGs, that should give you some idea how boring its story was.

I can also put my signature under that one. They are all amazing games. You may add Mass Effect trilogy to that but its gameplay is slightly different.

Ok, but in your experience, how much are those purchases needed to play the game? Can you still do quite well in the game without purchases, or does it become increasingly difficult to keep up without them? What benefits do the purchases bring?

To give two examples from other "free-to-play" games:

Candy Crush Saga: while you can indeed play the game without paying anything, the game is constructed so that it becomes more and more wasteful to try to keep playing. Success in later levels becomes more and more about luck, it is near impossible to clear a level without getting many of those candy powerups, sometimes several in a row. And quite often you might be just a few moves from the victory when you run out of moves, and you are pushed to buy more moves to clear the level.

Team Fortress 2: Playing it totally for free is only really useful in case you concentrate only on maybe two primary classes. If you want to swap between several classes, then the small inventory becomes a real issue as you have to constantly discard "unnecessary" items to make room for new ones.

Each class has several weapons and items that are very useful for certain situations, so for a given class, you want to have many of them available for different situations. Trying to cope only with stock items makes the game harder than it should be. And who would want to play an engie without a Rescue Ranger anyway? Being able to fix your sentry from a distance, or teleport your sentry for long distances, with a Rescue Ranger is super useful, and a real tide turner in many cases (e.g. in order to smuggle a level 3 sentry fast to the backs of the enemy; I recall how surprised one enemy team was in Turbine when they were dominating our team easily... and suddenly they had my level 3 sentry behind their backs, mowing them down :). "Huh? Where the heck did that come from?!?".

Also, the game makes sure it becomes annoying if you run out of inventory space because it interrupts you from the game (when you receive an item but have no room in inventory), bugging you about either discarding something in your inventory, or discard that item you just received. So you have to stop playing the level just to juggle with your inventory. Just for that, you start wishing for more inventory space.

Well you do have a point there...There are some games that are annoying though like this one, Though there are other games that are more worth to play out there without spending much just to make your character cool , I mean for those who will play totally free without payments, etc .. You know, It's kinda disappointing for me that they had to label the game as free-to-play, when you end up spending much money for a free-to-play game. The limited inventory slots are annoying too, considering that I never spent my money in that game It came very hard for me to accomplish those task without spending much, plus It didn't last long for me to play either :-)
