timppu: Last I checked, Netflix seemed to be more suitable for people who like TV series than who like movies. I don't really care for TV series
That would be Hulu.

Edit- Check out their original programing! like Narcos

Matruchus: Thanks for this. Didn't know about it.
Check this site to search for which titles are available in each country.

I had to cancel my subscription of it.
It worked great here in Brazil and it is pretty darn cheap too...

But my other hobbies - reading books, comic books and playing GOG games - take all the time I have.
No credit card, can't even sign up for the trial month. :'(
I haven't watched television for years
Just curious: how many of you using Netflix outside North America (and who aren't using a VPN or something similar) have an option to get DVDs in the mail?

Blaster_Master: If you have Netflix in any country you can use the following free browser addon to access the Netflix selections of any other:

Interesting. Never heard of this before. I do recall a similar service that worked as an add-on in Firefox. MediaHint, I think it was called, but it jumped from free to paid after about a year with little warning and I stopped using it. Curious what will become of this new one.

DVDs in the mail? That still exists in the US? Vow.

Definitely not listed as an option for me. I guess this is purely an American thing.

That was actually how the service started back in the early '00s; streaming came later (it sure wouldn't have been practical on the Internet of, say, 2003 ;) ). But they don't really push the disc-based service anymore -- in fact, I only just found out this evening that you can still have the mail-order part without paying for streaming. The attraction of their physical disc-based service is that it has a MUCH larger selection, whereas they have to license everything they want to offer on the streaming service -- region by region -- and many TV series and movies are locked (at least temporarily) into exclusivity deals on one or another of the competing subscription-based online streaming services (Amazon and Hulu being the main competitors here).
And still Netflix in Sweden offers only 30% or so of what's available on US Netflix. Yeah...good value for money [sarcasm].

I had a free month, watched a few movies then unsubed. Last time I heard, netflix completely tanked over here since the catalog is extremely poor if you do not want to watch series.

Annoying that there's need to sign up to view their catalogue. Broke down and did it, and so far it's quite disappointing. Movie selection is abysmal and there are only a few series that I find of any interest. Considering that I have too much to consume and not nearly enough time to do it, I think I'll stick to watching what I have on Yes (satellite TV). Also, no Hebrew dubbing or subtitles, so useless for my family.
Not sure why I would want to pay extra for this, over just watching things on Sky. What are the benefits other than being able to choose what is streamed over waiting till they appear? I mean I haven't watched Breaking Bad yet, am sure it will pop up at some point, no hurry.

Tarm: Is China having piracy protectionist issues?
No, it's the same as the true reason why there is no Youtube, Facebook, Twitter, and so on either.
There are already streaming on demand services here in China people can pay for if they want. (Legal and licensed). The government blocks similar foriegn sites and services so the people can only buy from local companies.

There are some Netflix original series, such as Daredevil. I don't think they're available outside of Netflix. (Correct me if I'm wrong.)
