i wanna find an old PC game that i played as a kid that i think came as a demo on one of the CDs that was sold with magazines back in the day.

it was called Dafty Duck (yes, Dafty, with a T) and i remember that not only because, well i remember it (though memory is a funny thing), but also because as a kid i copied the folder of the game directly from that CD in case the CD ever got damaged and i still have it. many, many years ago i tried to emulate win95/98 but the game wouldn't work. it did start, kinda, for a second, but it only showed a black screen with maybe a second of audio before it just closed.

inside the folder there are sound files that work and bring my memories back to my childhood, except no music folder :( i think there was only one song on a constant loop which i can still hear in my head but i can't sing it, if that makes sense. like if you ever dreamt of a brand new song but for the life of you you can't recreate it when awake. one of the sounds that was so memorable it etched itself into my brain was the AHOOGA sound (you know, that car horn sound). i remember that sound clip playing throughout the level a few times in a row, but i don't remember when it happened, if at the start of the level, at the end, when picking something up or when dying.

the character you play as is a black and white penguin, kinda square-shaped looking. the game itself is a standard platform where the screen doesn't move. you just jump from one platform onto the next collecting... something, i completely forgot, and i think i remember the level transitioning like a slide show, the screen just moving up or down when you complete the level. it was really fun and i loved the game, but as with a lot of things in our childhood things get lost and forgotten as time moves on, but i have never forgotten that game and always wanted to replay it again in my life.

the README that comes with the folder says:

Dafty Duck

clasic game about penguin tried to save its friends and hide from rolling drum

Dodgy Posse (name of the developer)
File size: 1,2 MB
Windows 95/98

can anyone help me find this game? in a working state i mean. or help me find a way to make it work?

EDIT: the game where you play as a penguin with the title of a duck has been confirmed to exist lol with all of four pictures of it as proof :) now if only GOG would sell it lol

Can't find any game named "Dafty Duck".
You sure, that's not just the name YOU gave the files when you copied them onto your HDD?

Also - Games made by Dodgy Posse (according to Moby Games):
- Bog
- Bubble Jeopardy
- Calamari Cubes
- Cyber Marine
- Enemy Lines
- Hunchback '96
- Hunchback 2: Rampart Rampage
- I can't believe it's not...Bomberman
- Mission Cobra
- Terra Probe
- Tetro Conektum

As you can see: no "Dafty Duck".
Should that not be Daffy Duck?
hi,
https://www.mobygames.com/game/150058/hunchback-2-rampart-rampage/screenshots/dos/1021172/ ?
long shot, and greetings : )

McGuffins: Should that not be Daffy Duck?
Not according to the OP.

But something's amiss here.

OP remembers the (alleged) name of the game AND the name of the (alleged) developer - only that developer has apparently never made such a game (maybe it never left the demo-stage? - but even then...) and naming a game "Dafty Duck", when you play a penguin (another thing, the OP remembers), makes not much sense, if you ask me.

no it's not the name i gave the files, but it is what i found few months back on one site so i saved it because it was the only info i found. there wasn't anything else, no picture, nothing. it's not without reason i'm asking for help.

no it's not :\ but that stupid Looney Tunes duck makes finding this game that much harder because google keeps searching for it instead of "dafty". thanks for trying but not even close. don't remember it ever being nighttime in any of the leves and the platforming was done up and down, not left and right.

7aichi: snip
I see there is a download from a dump available here:
https://archive.org/details/popular_mini_games_v2
If it's a 16-bit program, you can try doing this:
1. Download and extract the stable version of the open-source winevdm:
https://github.com/otya128/winevdm/releases
2. Use the file 'otvdmw.exe' to run and launch the .exe
BTW, do you know which magazine it was? Some of them still have the dumps of their old CDs on archive.org

yeah but that's fine because i do have it, the original from 2005 and the one i got in 2022 from the same link the other user sent of popular mini games v2 (completely forgot about that link). i just need to find a way to play it safely and not eff myself by using suspicious methods.

not the same. it's like saying if you like Elden Ring go play Jedi Survivor. may be the same genre but it's not the same.
