Get a double monitor arm or two single ones. They are such improvement over the stands that come with the monitors. Much easier to arrange the monitors and you gain on the desk all that empty space under the monitors. Just look what the monitors' weight is and the limit for the arm(s) before buying.

inc09nito: I am considering buying a new monitor lately, because I would like something bigger and with better picture quality.

Thanks!
First off, some basic tips: Try to get a decent viewable space per dollar ratio, and try to set a budget(I usually used to use 200 dollars as my limit) and stick to it as closely as possible.

Also steer clear of touchscreen monitors unless you really need one for some reason as they are usually overpriced.

========Wait.....not to nag but you said 900 dollars was too much for a chair yet you bring up a similar priced monitor......why? o.0

fr33kSh0w2012: Yep Apple//E

We had these in 3rd class at my school.

Seriously, That school was cheap.
Some of the games were kick arse, though.

Yeah You watch PC games on a chair... the monitor in question is 34" ULTRA-WIDESCREEN Have you seen it in action!

Yeah but Where in the world is Carmen Sandiego wasn't one of those games.

Thing is, to me it seems silly to say it's okay to spend such on a monitor(if one is poor) and not a chair...esp. if they are around the same price.

Also I sit so close that size monitor wouldn't be needed.

Also also I think curved is a fad.

inc09nito: […] My PC is running on Core i7 3770K, 16GB RAM, AMD RX570 8GB VRAM.
I play everything maxed out Full HD no problem, but I guess jumping to big resulotion can decrease my framerate substantially.
And then when I consider that the new model is 144Hz and I would play in - let's say - ~60 FPS - does that make much sense? […]
I would be very careful with your purchase simply because I don't think you'll be able to power the screen with this configuration. Well, it'll run, but will it reach 144Hz at 1440p? At least make sure the monitor can display a lower resolution (like 1080p) because you may have to use that until / unless you upgrade your pc (later).
VA - Darker blacks and generally almost no backlight bleed or glow.
IPS - Better colors. Faster black transitions. Varying degrees of backlight glow. Corners of IPS panels can get washed out.

I have noticed more flashing on VA panels with Freesync/Gsync compared to IPS, especially on loading screens. With Freesync panels it's very important to check the freesync range. Freesync range is the refresh rate range that freesync will work. For instance, one panel might have 48hz - 100hz, and another panel the same size might be 75hz - 100hz. IF the range is too small, LFRC (low frame rate compensation), which doubles the frame rate when dropping below the low frame rate of the freesync range, will not work.

VA panels can exhibit black smearing due to the panel rendering of black to light being much slower than the refresh. When testing VA panels, it's important to test black surrounded by white/light background, and then move the camera (I use youtube video reviews). This is to judge black smearing. More recent VA panels have gotten much better. I have seen a moving mouse cursor, which was white, disappear on a black/dark background on an Acer VA panel. I've never seen this issue with IPS.

A 570RX will probably have issues in most games with reaching 144hz @ 1440p.

Promo on the Samsung monitor which I mentioned is over and I didn't decide to buy it. So I guess even less motivation to do it now.
Maybe I should save money for something better and also start saving for graphics card upgrade.

For the record: I made a mistake and I have RX 590, not 570, but I don't think this makes a big difference..

I was going to prove you wrong but looked it up and it actually did not make a huge difference (25%), nowhere near enough to enable gaming on the larger resolution but the extra VRAM makes a difference if you would buy a monitor with a higher resolution.

I have started looking at this monitor: AOC C32G1 and actually I think I am going to buy it, and here's why:
* I will not be upgrading my GPU anytime soon , and - as we discussed - RX 590 is great for Full HD gaming but not so much for bigger resolutions
* this monitor is exactly 1920x1080
* it is VA panel and I wanted to try one to see how it compares
* it is upgrade in size (32 inch vs 27 inch which I have now)
* It is really cheap, so no big regrets
* I guess this is one of last chances to buy Full HD monitor of this size. Bigger resolutions are taking over, and retro-gamers like me will have harder lives ;D

On downsides:
* worse brightness
* in one review I saw that it has a really bad gradient

What do you guys think?
Thoughts for now on a 32" 1920*1080 monitor: Due to the "huge" pixels you will need to apply AA to your games as there will be visible jaggies.
Aliasing is not a huge problem to me, because I have always lived with that, so nothing new ;)

I bought it. I bought AOC screen.. and returned it... and now I am considering returning the replacement too. Backlight bleeding is really bad on these monitors. It's visible on Windows loading screen, even visible in games when most of the screen is black and there are no bright objects on the screen to draw attention from it.
What's even worse, the second one has bright spots (it is "cloudy") in exactly same places where the first one. This basically discourages me from replacing it again.
Furthermore, I dug deeper in the Internet and found that people are replacing these monitors (not only AOC, but also ASUS, ACER, etc.) four, five times and all units have very recognizable backlight bleeding. This applies especially to curved screens - they are worst. So even with VA panels there's a really small chance of getting a faulty-free unit..

I have to admit however, that colors and contrast are noticeably better than in my old screen. Black would also be much better if it wasn't for annoying BLB.
I also like that monitor's stand is a bit higher and I can set bigger tilt, this way I can set it higher with a feeling that it 'looks at me" (sort of like it would hang on a wall). Combine this with the fact that it's curved and I would say that immersion is improved compared to my old setup.

It also allows me to set some new options in my Radeon drivers (obviously FreeSync, but also some Resolution scaling, etc.), which are not possible for the my old monitor.

Finally, even looking from pretty close distance, it does not feel pixelated or jaggy, in my opinion it looks really good. Frankly, I expected this to be a bit worse, I was a bit scared that pixels would really be visible or something..

All in all, I am a bit torn here. It feels like for watching movies and playing not so dark games and especially colourful games this would be a great hardware. However, I play a lot of dark games and I feel that I would be irritated by BLB. I need to decide fast if I want to return it too, or maybe keep it. One option that comes to my mind is that maybe I could wait for a different model to appear on market, or maybe curved monitors will die and we'll be back to flat ones? It may also be that with time, they will fix their production process and situation will improve...?
Sad to hear about bad backlight. I have seen that a couple of times and it looks awful. I guess getting that spot on for every unit costs too much.
I recently got an LG VA panel monitor and there's seriously no edge bleeding at all, it's amazing. I dealt with a crappy TN panel with edge bleeding for years because I thought that's just how PC monitors were. Nope! Very happy with this one. The blacks on a VA panel are sooooo much better too, and modern VAs have very little ghosting. It's 1440p, which I think is the sweet spot since 4k is such a framerate killer. And yeah, g-sync is a revelation.

Honestly this monitor is the biggest PC upgrade I've had in like a decade.

Curved? What model?

And 1440p, I don't think it's worth it unless for some of newest titles. Maybe 1% games in my library have that good textures and models to take advantage of that resolution. Or do you gain something for retro games in that resolution (assuming they even support it)?

I have played a little with the unit I have got. Freesync is great, i agree here. Colors, contrast, brightness - all on spot, very noticeable upgrade comparing to old setup. BLB does not get in the way in 99% of time, it was visible only on loading screens between chapters.

I also watched a tv show and was mostly fine, but there were moments in some darker scenes where BLB was noticeable on a black strip (frame) on bottom of the screen.

I am still undecided whether return it or not...

Yeah, on a 27" the pixels are already fairly noticeable. I can't even imagine how bad it would look on a 32".
