Torchlight is a fantastic game, true, but I already own it three times over on various platforms and I really don't need another copy.

My expectation was that the mystery game is a small, cheap, but *new* title, that nobody is likely to own. Or at least some kind of underrated gem that very few people know of. Putting multi-million sellers on sale as a mystery game is a really crappy idea.

My expectation was a pet unicorn. Maybe I should have read the FAQ before participating in the mystery draw.

No, of course I wasn't forced to buy it, and 2.89 euro isn't a whole lot by any stretch of the imagination.

But by doing something like this the company is basically saying "Trust us, you'll enjoy it!" So I trusted them. I don't know that I will do so again, and I've decided to warn others as well by posting this.

I guess they do... I only tried once and ended up with a game I already owned, even though there's apparently a few dozen games which I don't own available as part of this mystery deal thing.

Lesson learned -- I think I'll stick to regular, not-so-mysterious purchases in the future. :P I guess you have to think of it like you're buying a lottery ticket. There's a chance that you'll win a great price, but most likely you'll end up with nothing ( or at least nothing you're interested in ).

I don't know. I scored at least five from my wishlist. While I agree that the mystery deal isn't for everyone, it provides others an opportunity. I imagine it must do something for the bottom line or they wouldn't keep running the promo.

One thing I do agree with the OP about is that a game like Torchlight, that pretty much everyone owns by now - and was given away for free right here on GOG - probably shouldn't be part of the mystery game list.

Yeah, I would agree with that - for those that have been around the GOG block. For newcomers, maybe it's a draw. Rise of the Triad 2013 being another.

It was a while ago. I can't recall for certain now. But for a while after that, people couldn't give away the codes because it was almost impossible to find anyone that wanted/needed one.

No, but does that matter? For what it's worth, I'd have happily linked my other accounts to GOG for the purposes of this promo had I been given the chance to do so.

I check the forums at least once a day, but completly missed it. That is unfortunate. But that seems to be my luck. The free games I would most likely play, are the games I always miss.
Same story with Zuma on Origin. I wanted to play a Zuma game and found out, that the giveaway ended a few days prior to that.
