My Daddy used to tell me... "Boy, you could screw up a one car parade." I've spent my life proving him right.

I had my specs, ordered most of my parts (I kept going back and forth on cases and that held me back at first). Plus in one really epic screw up... I made three or four orders in getting my CPU, memory, PSU, OS, SSD's, HDD's, etc. etc. etc. I had picked out my GPU and could have sworn I had ordered it in one of those orders.... but boxes kept showing up and showing up and no GPU. WTF? So I go over my credit card transactions and orders at Newegg and.... well... I never ordered the damned thing.

So then November ended and sales with it. So I thought... wait for some X-Mas sales.... Only, at least for what I was looking for.. those sales never materialized. So I thought... wait until AFTER X-Mas... there will be sales then.... only there wasn't.

So here I am with every piece of everything I need for my self build... except a GPU. And I want a 1080ti. And now guess what??? They are almost all out of stock everywhere. And the very, very, very few (really can count on my fingers the number I've found) that you can find in stock have had their prices go THROUGH THE ROOF. As in, over $1000. I saw one EVGA one for $1,599.00. And I know that's the exact same one that was in the $900's in November.

God damned miners.
Or we could complain that neither AMD nor Nvidia has their own factories capable of making the chips.
Cryptocurrency miners won't ever buy out the high end graphics cards - mostly they settle on the GTX 1060 / GTX 1070 and other mid-range equivalents from AMD. A GTX 1080 Ti won't provide a reasonable ROI.

I'm just saying it's always important to blame the right people when you feel like blaming someone :).

Yeah... well.. maybe you should start reading reviews of 1080tis and see how many of them are miners. I've been reading reviews for over a month.

And it's not gamers that pushing prices of them on ebay into the $1800 range (and more)

I thought you were returning all that stuff anyway after throwing your toys out of the pram over something?
Ohhh nasty luck.

Bloody cryptominers

Hmmm... ok, I'm obviously a bit behind the times here :). Turns out they're not that bad if you can afford them (and turning your house into a power suction device) - just read about it now.

As an alternative, have you considered getting a regular 1080?

Why would anyone need such a costly graphics card?!!

It's not like we actually play these games..
right?
right?
:p

On a serious note, it is really sad you missed buying the GPU. It must be really frustrating.

On an unrelated note, GPUs cost a lot more here than the US. I found it when I bought my card. :(

Well, it makes no sense to me either. I would've thought it made more sense to buy about 4 or so mid level cards. But one guy on one of the reviews bought 8 of 1080tis. 8 of them! I just don't see how he's going to get that much money back. It just doesn't make sense to me.

Of course spending $900 for one component of a thing you're going to play games on doesn't make a lot of sense either so there is that.

WOW, that F'ing sucks. I haven't been watching video cards, since I did my current build last year. Holy shit, those bitcoin miners are really screwing things up for people building their own rigs. Hopefully you can find a card that will fulfill your needs without breaking the bank.

The funny thing is there were SO MANY to choose from in November. I could've had any one I wanted. But I was being picky and reading the reviews and hoping for a better price.... and now I'm going to have to pay more and accept less. I put a couple of bids in at E-Bay but I was told even though the prices seemed "reasonable" (lol, still $900 for cards that were in the $700 in November) that once it got down to the last day or two miners would come in and the price would go up then. So I'm not holding my breath. One of them runs till Monday and the other Saturday. So if this advice was right then Thursday or Friday I'll get the email that I'm no longer the highest bidder.
Just wait a few more days. Gpus went out of stock during black Friday and Christmas, that's why you can't find them and prices are especially high, not taking into account the already high prices due to mining. As soon as stores get some stock, prices will return to what was before.
