Hello fellow gamers,

Here is my complete opinion, and WARNING, when using GOG Galaxy. While the overall look and feel of the application I happen to like, the application itself is complete trash. Meaning, it looks great, they're headed in the right direction, but they have serious work to do. Yes, I understand completely that the application in still in Beta (as far as I know) and has been for some time, it's just not something that you want to waste your time on and have un-needed stress over.

My biggest gripe about it is, taking for example the games that I own:
-Medal of Honor Allied Assault: War Chest
-Baldur's Gate (1 & 2)
-Stronghold HD & Crusader
-Empire Earth I, II, and III
-Nox
-Many irrelevent others

Just with this short list, yes, there are internal problems that have nothing to do with GOG. They are completely either, graphics problems mainly, sound problems, crashing, etc. That's not GOG's fault and I understand, however, there is a significant diference in gameplay entirely, or just getting it to start period. For example, a rather large problem I was having recently with Empire Earth was, I would start up the game, click whichever button after a perfect startup (Game Settings, Game Tools, Campaign, etc.) and it would act as if it were a website and the hyperlinks for the start and back buttons, or trying to adjust the game settings, would not work and you couldn't get out of it at all. I would have to force shutdown on my computer just to get out of it. Now, when I started using the original GOG Downloader, all of these issues would magically disappear, and life was hunky-dory.

So, my advice for all of you, is to save yourselves a shitload of stress and don't download the Beta for GOG Galaxy. Wait until the Official one comes out because it's just not worth it. Now I get that everyone has a different computer and thus similar or different issues depending, and different solutions that have worked for most people may not work for some. Hey, my computer isn't "God's Gift To Mankind," so I get it. But, by doing one simple thing and reverting back to the old downloader has saved me from future aches and pains.

I hope that this will help some of you if you're just stuck and nothing seems to be working. If I can help anyone, with what limited knowledge I have, please let me know.

What's "Galaxy"?

Are people now seriously blaming in-game graphics errors and in-game crashes of classic games (whose compatibility is always debatable) on Galaxy? What's next? "GOG Galaxy ate my hamster?"

Well, I have 71 installed games, part of them through Galaxy, part using traditional installer. So far no problems whatsoever. Medal of Honor Allied Assault: War Chest is one of them, finished the game just a few weeks ago.
I agree it's far from being finished, somewhere between alpha and beta if you ask me. Gog knows how messed up the client seems to be, but blaming Galaxy for everything sounds a little bit paranoid to me..

Not quite as nice as Cadbury.

Basically, it's GOG's version of Steam. So, if you go on the website and you select one of your games it will say in the download icon, "Try Galaxy" or, "Try GOG Galaxy." It's their new client and it has a lot of issues. Which a couple are listed in the thread. Maybe to you, but I can only go by what I've tried that other people have recommended. So through deductive reasoning, when I delete GOG Galaxy and everything works fine after using the original installer, I'd say it's pretty valid.

I have a fair few more, all installers, never installed Galaxy, don't have any issues.

103 games installed via Galaxy... little to no issues. Sure Galaxy has some issues but this seems to be stretching it some, blaming in game graphic issues on it. That should have zero to do with Galaxy.

I always thought beta warns enough. Meant for users who can deal with bugs and help developing software making notes, suggestions, sending logs if something goes wrong or even solutions when they can.
Serioulsy, I went through dozens of dozens of Galaxy logs and most of time user was a problem, not the client..
Never heard about any grpahical glitches caused by Galaxy*, could you please post your logs at http://mantis.gog.com ?
*besides The Witcher 3 overlay, caused by changing resolution in game.

I've been using Galaxy since the beta started, and nothing like that ever happened . Are you sure it's not something else? Have you tried checking for malware, just in case ?
