Hello there,

how do you do, fellow gamers? Maybe you remember me (well, likely not) for my stupid questions about the ASUS gaming laptop I purchased in 2017.

In 2020 I had the money, so I planned to upgrade to a proper desktop, high-end gaming experience while the aforementioned laptop was starting to feel a bit, well, old (and in need of some urgent hardware maintenance).

And so I did upgrade:

http://kingofgng.com/eng/2022/01/16/sir-arthur-upgrades-the-hardware-and-joins-the-pc-gaming-master-race/

The CPU is an Intel Core i7-10700K, the GPU is a Palit GeForce RTX 3080 10GB. And everything is good in my gaming/computing life right now...

Just a couple notes:
- I can't vouch enough for Megaport, if you live in Europe you should seriously consider purchasing your next "semi-custom" PC (see the post above) with them. And this would likely be one of the few ways to actually purchase a modern GPU in the dark and messy times we are living in.
- Like I did with the laptop, sooner or later I'll experiment with undervolting the CPU. Not that I am in *particular* need of that, it's just that sparing a few Celsius degrees could be nice for the PC well being during Summer temps (about overclocking, I don't give a fuck)...
- Please, pretty please: don't suggest me games to play. I have enough of that for the years to come :-P

Yes, the rtx3080 is cool. I waited best part of year to get mine, but it was worth it. Although I do find it very loud, the fans are always on max. And that is in a huge 60 or 70cm case which is mostly empty bar fans. It can certainly run anything I chuck at it. I got mine from pcspecialist.co.uk, but I don’t recommend them anymore, mess of communication and the “full licensed” windows came on an embedded chip! The problem you will now find though is when you go into the settings in game you will be annoyed it only goes up to ultra! I would say your monitor looks a bit small, I run a 38” ultra wide :o)

Nope, 24" is perfect for Full HD. With 2K I'll upgrade to 27". Not interested in Ultra HD or (god forbid) ultrawide/curved monitors.

Why would you want a 3080 for HD, that’s like buying a Bugatti veyron and never driving more than 10miles and hour!
Hi,

I do remember you, mainly from the contribution(s) to the screenshot post. (reasonable memory, think nothing of it)
Nice build bro! Though, it is 2022?! Backlog issues? ;)

Your suggestion might be worth taking a look for when the time arises. For now, I've set my sights on Q2 2023 and NVIDIA's promise to provide ample stock. Let's see what will happen by that time.

A creative sound card, AE-5, and a 27" inch LG g-sync compatible ultragear monitor are already in my pocket. Mostly bearable to do with a 2060super, I swear, sometimes I dream of the performance the system could deliver with a 4070Ti installed.

Memory is 32 gigs divided over 4 banks, though 2 banks seems to be still the smarter choice if you have stability and high speeds in mind.

The 10900k is pretty OK with an 140 mm AIO cooler. It does run hot fast when engaging in overdrive. I have yet to log a bench in different games, mainly to see what the power draw does during sessions. How did you cool yours? Call it insane, BTW, but I'm almost 100% sure that games are behaving a lot more, user-friendly with the I9 installed.

Good read on your site!

Hope you will be enjoying your system for many years to come

Yes, mine too. I think it has something to do with certain configurations (and G-Sync monitors in particular) and a not so up-to-date version of the NVIDIA Game Ready drivers (which I should update asap).

Because I don't have the money to purchase a proper 2K display right now?!? :-D

With prayers and a Be quiet! Dark Rock Slim air-based cooler :-D

And I'm planning to find the right setup for undervolting, which had a very positive impact on my very, VERY hot laptop's CPU...

I do not have a thousand €uro to spare but they sure are nice even if they only do 120Hz.

I would have purchased a new 2K, G-Sync 144Hz+ monitor (an AOC, maybe an ASUS one) already if I had the money :-D

Yes! That's exactly one of the models I'm keeping an eye on - it supports pivot mode too! (that's important 'cause I like my vertical arcade games emulated properly) :-D

It's much less exciting for your bank account though :-D
