I just installed about 30 additional games on my SNES mini. Very happy to get translated versions of SMT I and II, Dragon Quest V and VI and the original Front Mission on there. Especially SMT II, so stoked!

You should be able to set that up on your TV itself: Stretched horizontally, or zoomed in (cutting off top and bottom)

There is one problem with stretching the screen for platformers like Mario, its going to make horizontal movement appear faster in relation to vertical movement. If you have played the game before it might feel off or maybe not, I havent tried it. With my old RPGs I prefer the stretch.

And it doesn't need to be stretched, it just takes some getting used to.

Plus both the NES and SNES come with borders you can chose from with different designs.

Am I the only one who has never been able to complete a single level of any of those games?

Seeing as you seem to like RPGs, here is what you get in, or close to that genre:

* Final Fantasy is obviously an RPG. (Note that this is the original NES version, complete with all its quirks and bugs.)
* Zelda 2 and Castlevania 2 are sidescrollers with towns and experience points. (Zelda 2 has a world map with random encounters as well.)
* Kid Icarus has a system where you get points by killing enemies, and you get more powerful at the end of the level if you get enough points.
* Some count the Zelda games as RPGs; the first two are available on this system.
* If Metroidvanias without shops or XP count, the original Metroid would qualify.

The Famicom Mini has a slightly different game selection; the one RPG related difference I can think of is that it has Final Fantasy 3 (Famicom version, in Japanese) instead of Final Fantasy.

The SNES Classic might also be worth looking into, and might actually be a better choice here. What we have here:

* Final Fantasy 6 and EarthBound are clearly RPGs.
* Super Mario RPG is here.
* Secret of Mana is called, by some, to be an RPG.
* Zelda: A Link to the Past and Super Metroid are as RPG-ish as the first games of their respective series.

Don't forget EarthBound, which is on there.

Some call that one of the best RPGs ever, albeit more for how unique it is rather than it's all around quality.
I still haven't had a chance to try it though. Busy with Super Metroid and Tecmo Bowl (on the NES).

I'd be more interested if Nintendo released the roms to buy (you know, like Sega did), not the whole (and to pc gamer unpractical) dust catcher thing. But then they would not be able to sell the same 30 year old games again and again to same people.

I want a NES Mini... and a SNES Mini... and GBC Mini... and...

But there's one problem for me... I want it all in one small portable package (kinda a GBC XL with shoulders and NES, SNES, and everything in there). Oh well, a man can dream u.u
