chevkoch: Welcome, good to see someone arriving in search for less frantic, less crazy digital exchange about games and related subjects. I've just found F-Droid too (happy for all the FOSS alternatives), and Prey is burning a hole into my library shelf waiting to be played when I'll have a machine that can actually run it. Welcome, welcome.
Oh man, time for some f-droid recommendations then!

- AntennaPod is a great podcast alternative, you can add your podcasts there and there's no sneaky data stealing!
- Cirrus is my fav weather app, it's actually accurate which with weather apps you'll know is a nightmare most times
- NewPipe is the greatest YouTube one I've found, no ads, the ability to download videos, play with the screen locked etc
- Fossify do great apps (File Manager, Gallery etc)
- ScrambledExif will take your exif data off any photos you don't want to have that attached (say sharing an image online)
- Vinyl is my choice of audio player, I just love it when I load on high res audio, zero issues on that one
- Stealth (for when I scroll reddit) has you not signed in, so it's great to just LOOK at the info, not interact

And Droid-ify is a replacement for f-droid, it has other repositories for other apps you can load in also, and is a much cleaner interface to me!

And thanks, it's fun to be here in the forum, I'm enjoying it!

Neat, thanks much for taking the time to mention these. Appreciate it. Minimalistic me only installed Proton VPN Free and MuPDF mini. But this list of yours I'll definitely check out.

There's also:
* Fennec F-Droid: Firefox minus telemetry and DRM (and possibly other proprietary bits); notably, this browser supports extensions
* Shader Editor: Allows you to write fragment shaders on your phone and display them; apparently can be used as a background, and could be used as a camera with a filter (though I don't know if you can take pictures)
* Termux: Gives you a linux terminal, allowing yuo to run command-line linux programs. There's ways to run graphical programs; as a proof-of-concept, I got Might & Magic: World of Xeen working under dosbox under termux
* There's also some period trackers that do not require internet permission; this can be handy from a privacy standpoint, as someone would need to get physical access to your phone (and unlock it) to get the data stored within

DSHLK: It's a lovely place to live. Wallabies, Koalas, plenty of snakes and spiders. All the Aussie cliches!
When someone makes a thread anywhere asking people to say something nice about another country, I always pick Australia... but your wildlife is why I'll never visit Okay, I like the bearded dragons, but all of your other wildlife all live on a spectrum of probably trying to murder you.... plus you forgot to mention that some of your spiders are the size of dinner plates.
*Does a little dance.
*Makes a little love.
*Gets arrested very quickly as thats not normal behaviour at 2:29am with a dustbin on the street.

The funny thing is just how many deadly things we have that we really don't worry about. It's funny seeing other countries make a big deal about the creatures and then taking a second to think...okay yeah, they ARE technically deadly. But they're all more scared of you than the other way around.

Except for Bull Sharks and Salties (crocs). Those two are...next level.

'huntsman' spiders are great. They look scary as heck, but they're not dangerous to us. They just look MEAN!
Another useful app available on F-Droid: KDE Connect. It lets you do things like:
* Share files between computer and phone
* Control the computer with your phone
* Control the phone with your computer (useful for typing lengthy texts)

You'll need to install it on both the computer and the phone you want to use, there's a pairing process, and depending on how you install it, on newer versions you may need to enable restricted permissions for some of the features. (For example, you'll need to allow accessibility to control the phone with your computer.)

Also, Android 15 apparently has a "private space", for those things you don't want others to be able to access, but I haven't been able to test it. (Currently installing Android 15 right now.)

See I have a pretty extreme phobia of spiders, so those dinner plate sized spiders are a total deal breaker for me. I don't care how "not dangerous" they are, I never want to meet one.

Also I have to ask why is the honey bee #2 on the danger list that you linked. Honey bees around here are just super friendly. I've fished them out of my swimming pool, only to have them want to hang out on me. They're really not aggressive.

This sounds great as I've been looking for a way to transfer files from phone to computer. Thank you.
