Welcome! And I agree that forums are my favorite way to communicate. I don't do any other form of social media. No Twitter, no Discord, no Instagram, no Tick Tocks, only old-school forums, baby! Well now you've got me curious, as I've always wanted to live on a small island.
How tiny is it? Just you and your cat? Or do other folks live there too? Which island (if you don't mind saying)? I'd love to see it on a map. Of course if it's just you, then maybe don't. How do you like living on a tiny island? Are storms a concern? Do you need to take a boat to work? I'm sure these are dumb questions, but I know literally nothing about life on a small island. :-)

I actually just picked up N64 for cheap on eBay and have been collecting for it. Also, been rebuilding my Sega Genesis collection that I had as kid.

Oh not so small as to be the only people here! There's a good few, but at its narrowest you can walk from side-to-side in just a couple of minutes. We're known for having amazing surf here (which we do!), and great beaches, deep rockpools etc. We have Great White Sharks each season, whales will pass through, and a few other shark species (thresher, hammerhead etc)

We've had a bridge since the late '70's, so mainland bridging is a recent discovery for us! Hah. It's quite built up though, when I was quite young there was...noone. Old home-videos show nothing at all around. It's a lovely place to live. Wallabies, Koalas, plenty of snakes and spiders. All the Aussie cliches!

Storms aren't ever really a big deal (though sometimes if it's particularly bad then the power will be out for a few days!)

but keep in mind, there're dramas and toxicities here, too. maybe, not that spectacular like, say, on Steam or Twitter. but still.

Heya im new too :) I've been wanting to try Linux for quite some time but never got to it, would love to try Ubuntu Touch or some other linux version for phones or maybe just Mint or something simple like that.

I'd recommend Linux Mint! The distro is really 'familiar' for Windows users, which to me is a big plus. A lot go there with that one as their first try with Linux, but to me it really isn't beatable! You can even load it up on a live USB and give that a go if you want to try it before committing!

Yes, booting Linux from a USB effectively allows you to test that distribution before committing to it. Any changes you make during that period are not saved. From that test you are able to fully install Linux onto the hard-drive if it suits you. Please consider reading Adamhm's forum post for more information.

This is what I do.

I work for a company that primarily uses Windows, and In my area, Windows is the dominant operating system. If you don't have experience in Windows products, you can lose a job opportunity here, which sucks.

Regardless, I also have an older gaming laptop with Linux installed, which I take with me on trips from time to time. I'm not super techy with Linux, but I can get myself around it.

Welcome, good to see someone arriving in search for less frantic, less crazy digital exchange about games and related subjects. I've just found F-Droid too (happy for all the FOSS alternatives), and Prey is burning a hole into my library shelf waiting to be played when I'll have a machine that can actually run it.
