So I've alway been a huge fan or horror films but missed the boom in popularity of horror games due to my 15 year gap between gaming. You can imagine my dismay then, when I tried to play Outlast and Alien Isolation around 18 months ago, only to discover that was I utterly terrified playing these games to the point where I couldn't quite bring myself to get through them and ultimately gave up...

However, after repeatedly reading about how amazing Alien Isolation was I picked up the courage to go back to it after a break of 3 months. This time I did manage to complete that game and with my new found courage have started collecting lots of horror games. I been through a few now such as Fran Bow, Obscure and Amnesia: The Dark Desent, SOMA and just completed Outlast last night. The following is the list of horror games I have installed and ready to play but I honestly don't have a preference as to which one to play next. I'd welcome your input and recommendation as to which of these games you think is best so I can decide what order I might play them and which one start next:

Post Mortem
Overcast - Walden and the Werewolf
Doorways: Prelude
Doorways: The Underworld
Kholat
123 Slaughter Me Street 2
Apartment 666
Condemned: Criminal Origins
Amnesia: Machine for Pigs
Layers of Fear: Masterpiece Edition
Penumbra: Requiem
Penumbra: Black Plague
Penumbra: Overture
Obscure 2
DreadOut
Pathologic
Lucius
Alone in the Dark 1,2,3 and the New Nightmare.

I've never played any of these before by the way.

I'm surprised you haven't gotten any feedback on this yet, so I'll bump it up for you. I know there are a number of horror game fans on the site. I don't much go for them myself, although I own a handful - none on your list though. If all else fails, let random.org decide for you! :)
I would go for the Penumbra series. Also check out "The Cat Lady", if you haven't already.
Condemned is pretty good. The sequel got pretty ridiculous as far as the story went though.
Penumbra series.
If you want to give yourself a break from the all shiny new horror games you've played lately, go back to the classics. I'd recommend the older Alone in the Dark titles. They're not the greatest games, but surely a must play for all horror game fans.
You can skip Amnesia: Machine for Pigs.

Its NOT scary.

same for Kholat which is tedious and boring.

same for Overcast, buggy and broken

Play Penumbra.
Play Condemned !
I think you should also include "Undying" on your (wish)list, its worth it!

The Layers of Fear is pretty grotesque. Much luck and always remember to have an extra pair of these in proximity! ;-)

I do =)))))

Condemned is one of the very few, if not really the only horror game I ever enjoyed. I'm not a fan of being scared while playing, I play games to relax and have fun, but this one was really good. It felt just right, spooky and scary but not to the point where playing was no longer fun, and all round well designed.

I actually do have 'The Cat Lady' - I didn't list it as I though it was more a point & click adventure game but I suppose it's also a horror game...

If you mean Clive Barker's Undying then I finished it a few weeks back. Amazing game - still think about it and miss playing it.

Jeebus, man, he's been out of gaming for a number of years. Might want to ease him into the truly horrifying.
Ok, it's shaping up to look Penumbra and Condemend as the next game to play. Maybe I'll do the first Penumbra then Condemend and Alone in the Dark and the take stock again.

Anyone played Dread Out? Looks pretty creepy...
If you think about expanding that collection let me recommend The Last Door, which is actually a pretty new game even if it looks like an old 8 bit adventure but despite that has atmosphere in spades and Waxworks, which is an actual 25 year old classic that everyone with a liking for horror should have played.
