I don't know if this is only me but I wish that we could pick genres that we get. Everytime I've bought a mystery game from what ever mystery sale I always get point and click games or puzzle games, which I really don't like. I just wish I could pick genres I don't like or pick genres I do like for the mystery game, instead I'm left with games I'll never play.

Anyone else feel this or is this just me?
I tried it on the first time they did it, said meh, and never did it again. Plenty of fish in the sea.
I think a lot of people feel this way. I tend to avoid trying my 'luck', since there are almost invariably only one or two games that I'd be interested in among the list of games in the mystery bag and the chances I'd get one I want are almost nil.

Having said that, I caved and bought one in this sale and got... a game I don't want. *shrugs*
Mystery sales aren't my thing, I'm 99% sure I would be disappointed but I agree. Frankly, I wish there was an option on any DD store to "hide" games based upon genres.
My experience with monopoly and risk has convinced me to stay away from games of chance :P
I want pay-what-you-want promo on GOG.
I'm not a fan of the mystery sales either, I bought one and probably never again.

But if they start adding a bunch of filters for genre or operating system, the pool of games you could get would be narrowed down so much it would stop being much of a mystery. Especially once the community compiled their list of exactly what's coming up.

I don't see them ever doing this, it would be too easy to exploit it.

There's a secret to Monopoly: cheat to lose.

Always overpay the bank. Slide some of your money under your side of the board. Miscount your steps to land on negative squares. Lie about the contents of Community Chest cards and pay up. You can get away with a lot, as people aren't typically suspicious of negative consequences.

When you lose surprisingly early, you'll hear laughter and "Wow, Matewis sure sucks at Monopoly." Just leave. Hours later, after the dreary and terrible late game slog, your opponents will pack up, discover your stash, and realize you lost purposefully. Your wisdom will then dawn upon them.

And bonus, people don't ask me to play Monopoly anymore.

As for the thread, I totally agree. A degree of choice would make these gambling sales more palatable.
When I was a kid, I was a sucker for "grab bags" at the comic book store. You just never knew what you were going to get! $5 for limitless value! I could get an X-Men #1, a 1st appearance of Superman -- anything! The sky's the limit!

But after perhaps $50 of grab bags, all I had a were a bunch of repeat garbage bin comics and few okay comic book cards. And no allowance in my wallet. Really, I could have spent my money so much better.

Same thing here. They're a huge lure for GOG's younger audience or folks with plenty of cash on hand and they want to have fun with the lottery. You can definitely spend your money better. So don't worry about it. Know that the mystery button is there for kids to learn a valuable lesson and to see a cute squirrel. That's about all it's good for.
Honestly, I just tend to wait for a bit and look at what others that bought a mystery game have received. If it's mostly games that I'm not interested in, I'll give it a pass, otherwise, I might take a gamble.
There's really hardly any point to buying a mystery game unless you're doing it for the fun of it, since the chance of getting something you don't like/already own/could have gotten cheaper some other time or somewhere else are quite high.
That being said, implementing some sort of filter would certainly be nice, although it does negate the "mystery" approach somewhat.
yeah I hate gambling. gog is pretty much the only place that motivates me to do it. I didn't bother last time they had one and I was happy with that.

I'll probably get one $3.00 game just to do it when I buy my stuff in the encore.

Genres? Ha! I'd wish you could pick your operating system!
Some want to be able to choose genre. Others want to choose OS. Others want to only get old/new games. You know what you all really want? To know what you're actually buying. So instead of asking for the mystery sale to be tweaked to your liking and in a way contrary to the idea of that sale, just don't use the stupid gambling thing, and buy the discounted games.
