darthspudius: Ringu and the remake are great films. The suspense they create in that film is unrivalled if you ask me. A film that can have you scared without anything happening is incredible... of course then when something happens you pee yourself. Brilliant stuff.

disi: They are great and nearly complete without any splatter or blood at all (I try to remember a splatter scene). There are three versions I know, the one with the blonde "american girls", the parody of the one with the "american girls" and one set in Japan or somewhere I think, where there is a haunted house?

What was this other movie, where some ghost sits on the guys back?

I cannot remember all those movies :D
Ringu (The ring) Ju-on (The Grudge) are the main ones. Dark water, The Eye and One Missed Call are good ones. Though they've had some shit American remakes.Ringu had some good sequels but Ju-On didn't amount to much after the second movie which was quite good.

I think you are referring to Shutter (2004 movie)

EDIT: The remake is from 2008

Oh iv never seen those films. Any good?
Hellraiser 1 and 2. And if you fall in love with them like I did - all the rest of the series. Some are really bad but most of them have some redeeming qualities.
Well, all right. You can skip Hellworld. It stinks.
I love most of the Val Lewton produced horror flicks from the 1940's such as-

Cat People
I Walked With a Zombie
The Body Snatcher

Some other random classics-

Black Sunday
The Haunting
Island of Lost Souls
Dagon (my favorite Stuart Gordon flick)
Frailty
The Mist
At Midnight I'll Take Your Soul
Nosferatu
Dark City (more of a sci-fi, noir fairy tale)

I'll kick myself later for not mentioning a hundred and one other flicks that I love.

awalterj: The Ring (remake of Ringu) was scary enough that the girl I went to watch this movie with ended up covering up her TV with a white cloth for many weeks. If I tried to remove the cloth from the TV, she got scared and jumped into bed hiding underneath the bed sheets. She wouldn't come out unless I covered up the TV again.
Many people prefer the original but I somehow find Ringu (or The Grudge etc) less scary then The Ring, it probably comes down to personal preference.
I agree, i prefer The Ring more than Ringu too. And it`s one of my all time favorite horrors.

Imho not really scary, it's weird I watch a lot of Asian cinema but I don't find their horror films particularly scary, it's strange.

You know something. I quite liked a lot of the later Hellraiser movies. Especially the one with the Cop and the one with the lassy from the original. I think that was Hellraiser V and VI.

Do you have any idea how much I hate you for ever mentioning that. It is haunting me. I can't un-see it.

It's no harder to watch than Waterworld.

It's a lot harder to forget though!
Pan's Labyrinth: Not a horror movie by any means but with some changes this could have easily been turned into a grade A horror movie. The child eater scene would have given me nightmares as a kid.
Seeing this as an adult I'm incredibly amazed by the beautiful art direction but if I had seen this movie as a child, that would have been premium horror material. Seriously, I would not show this to any children who are even remotely imaginative.
