DRM-free movie release.

Us and the Game Industry, a documentary focusing on the very modern craft of virtual world creation and the people pursuing it, is available 40% off, DRM-Free on GOG.com. That's $5.99 for the first week.

Experience recent designs for computer games in the 21st Century. The traditional industry had been making a rolling set of waves in the commercial space. This film draws in close to a smaller and significant set of explorations into interactive experience. The developer, thatgamecompany, is watched during it’s build of JOURNEY(2012). Other adventurers are the independents Jason Rohrer, Alexander Bruce, Douglas Wilson( Die Gute Fabrik) and Zach Gage. The developers, their peers and the world of support structures for these expose the magic explored in a number of games. Interviews occur in San Francisco, New York, Davis, Austin and Copenhagen. Ready? Let's talk about Us and the Game Industry.

If you like to take a peek behind the curtain to see how the magic happens and maybe even meet the magician and see what do they consider to be magic, make sure to grab Us and the Game Industry DRM-free on GOG.com. The 40% off special launch discount promo lasts until Tuesday, September 9, at 11:59AM GMT.

GOG should sell Observe and Report, it's a great movie that almost no one has ever seen :

Russonc: These are the types of movies I would like to watch one day ... but for me, I don't need to own them. (maybe one day with a movie bundle super sale on GOG... hehe)
Me too... and I'm just in the mood to watch this now and I have a feeling it is unfortunately *only* now, not when it will be on a huge promo, or after... because there should be other more interesting movie here after (hope :D), and of course I have to play those hundreds games too :D Rent option is missing for me...

If you think that game publishers are paranoid about DRM, just wait until you see how paranoid movie studios are...

Smannesman: Seems like 95% of the GOG 'movies' are documentaries about the gaming scene.
I actually think they are refreshing; But i do agree, pulling in actual movies and TV series that aren't documentaries would be a good idea after they are satisfied it works and is worth it.

Personally? I have a much larger love for Anime than i do regular movies. But much like going for older titles, they have to prove this works first, so don't expect too much for the first year. After that when they have some numbers and income to show it as a viable option besides going through netflixs.
Oh hey, I was just thinking the GOG movies section didn't have enough video game documentaries. Thank god you've stepped up to repair that gaping hole in your catalog.
I see what GOG is doing with the movie releases thus far.

What better way to test the waters of DRM free movies, on a dedicated DRM-free website, than with movies all about the current gaming scene to educate gamers and would-be gamers as to how it works, will work, or has worked, and in the process teach them about what's important, and what's not.

With GOG's strict acceptance policy on games, I can see that carry over to movies. Most of what they add for the foreseeable future will be in the best interest of not just the GOG niche crowd, but to people who may be on the fence as to whether GOG.com is worth their time.

I can only imagine they have some surprises coming up with future movie releases.

I agree. I got briefly excited scanning the article and seeing a hooded figure and the words "new movie". Than I actually read it and noticed it was... yet another documentary. How exciting. Listen guys, if you want me to spend money, get something a little more action orientated, a good mystery, something scary or anything concerning science fiction. But please, no more boring documentaries about games, game development or game culture. I don't mind watching a documentary but only if it's something like "Walking with dinosaurs", "Planet earth" or "Through the wormhole". I even like watching Ted talks (and those are free on either Youtube or Netflix). But what you have on offer now, forget it.

After you mentioned that, I surely buy all Ghost in the Shell films here on GoG instantly.

Ditto. I love Ghost in the shell...
You wanna know what really rubs me the wrong way about the new movie section? That some of these movies are pretty much feature-length commercials for games THAT AREN'T EVEN ON GOG!

You do realize that renting things DRM-free is literally impossible - right?
GOG needs to contact some of the people creating indie movies through crowdfunding, is possible to get some interesting ones without being documentaries about gaming like those from these guys: http://arrowstormentertainment.com/. Is more likely these movies appearing DRM-free than titles from big studios
