There is now a gun crafting demo on Steam

https://store.steampowered.com/app/769860/MOTHERGUNSHIP_Gun_Crafting_Range/
so it will be released 17th July, for $24.99

Launch trailer - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gz7v0ujtxMM&feature=youtu.be
Hmm, I notice the gOg logo is missing from the trailer. Hopefully the game will make it here at some point.

Tyrrhia: It looks so much like Tower of Guns that it really should be named Tower of Guns 2, or Tower of Guns 2: Mothergunship, or even something like Mothergunship: A Tower of Guns ———. As it currently stands, you have no way of knowing that there is a close connection without watching some gameplay or already being aware of it.
Mother Tower of Gunships
GOG most definitely needs to pick this game up. Are you paying attention, GOG?

It'll be released in a week. GOG seriously needs to pick this game up. Online co-op will be added soon after release. The weapons you can craft are insane. It was already added to the wishlist ages ago. We need more votes for this!

There's a demo available at... the other place. Go check it out there and then demand that GOG bring the game to us!

Does the Mothergunship demo have any DRM in it?

No DRM in the demo if you get it from the modest place.

it's not out here, though...

And i think there will be problems getting this game on GOG:

Title screen of the game displays that it was partially funded by Humble Bundle

so there would be a "conflict" here for GOG, i suppose

Tested the game this morning though: the game works "DRM free" in its current build. You requires Steam Client for installation, though.

But after that, you can just copy the whole game folder to a different computer without steam and it would launch like a charm... for now. (although Humble Store/Bundle doesnt feature a DRM free build especially)

I have a bout 6 hours in this game now, so some first impressions.

Firstly - is it fun, and is it worth it? Yes it is, it is a very good FPS

Secondly - is it better than ToG? Yes and no. It is more of a "game" now, with a silly campaign. However it thereby lost some of its charm and ToG's random story made it easier for the casual just-one-more-go feeling. The gunplay is better in MGS, the enemies are more varied and there are more of them. But so far the actual rooms are a bit less interesting... more streamlined maybe? There are many rooms I have probably not unlocked, I am still only on the 5th spaceship, so have to wait and see.

Now, the main difference between MGS and ToG is the campaign and the inclusion of more RPG elements and loot to craft your guns. in MGS you clear spaceship to space spaceship, working your way up to the Mothergunship. When you die (and you will, it feels more difficult that ToG) you start from the same ship, you do not need to start from the beginning. The story is silly, but fitting. There is more variation in mobs, there are now mobs that shield others, heal bots and so on. Several familiar faces appear also.

The RPG elements comes in to play in an experience system, where you pick up black crystals for exp. You then use this to upgrade your armor, for more health, faster energy regen and so on. You also now get loot, which are used to craft guns.

The main difference is the gun-crafting system, where you make your own guns based on the pieces you buy in each run. The pieces comes in three flavors: Connectors - which has the slots you socket other pieces onto, Barrels - basically the gun, there are laser barrels, rocket barrels, blaster barrels and so on, and finally Caps - these are modifiers which adds effects such as lava mines, higher fire rate, ricochet and so on.

There are no limitations to what you can build, depending on what you find. You just need enough connectors, and you can have a gun made of 7 rocket launchers, if you so want. The limitations are in the gunplay, as all pieces of equipment needs energy. So a blaster uses less energy than a rocket launcher, and a lava mine mod sucks x amount of energy per shot. So while you can make that massive rocket launcher, it means that you can only fire one shot then you are out of energy and need to wait for it to recharge. This makes some interesting experimentation to craft a gun with a balance of firepower and sustainability. My personal starting setup right now is a tri-connector with a heavy blaster and a shotgun barrel with a lava mine mod.

Now, loot is persistent. You have in your HQ an inventory of max 100 pieces. When you go to a campaign spaceship and you die, you loose the pieces you brought with you. The replenish, you get to keep everything if you win, and there are side-mission where you are given pieces to "test out", and you keep those of you survive. There are also other side-missions for monies or exp.

So far I am enjoying it. The actually gameplay is very similar to ToG, with more variation in enemies. However, the rooms are so far a bit simpler, and I find myself hitting space a lot less then in ToG (which was essential there). But it is fast, fun and frantic. If ToG was a 9/10, then MGS is a 8.5/10 so far, it may change as I go along and unlock more.
