It seems that you're using an outdated browser. Some things may not work as they should (or don't work at all).

DirectX 8.1 is correct.

JeniSkunk: DirectX 8.1 (included)

rtcvb32: DX 8? I thought it was DX9.0c required to make it work. Though i really don't feel like grabbing my boxed copy of the game to look at the original specs.
Since my boxed copies are easily accessible, and are nearby my computer, it was easy to grab one to check the system requirements panel on a box.
The tedious part was transcribing all that info, exactly.

Base MW and GOTY is DX8.1,
When you add Morrowind Graphics Extender XE (usually abbreviated to MGE XE) to get MW to play nice with wide screen, DX9.0c is mandatory, and as well, Windows Vista SP2 is minimum OS.

MGE XE on Nexus Mods/

Replace : with %3A in the URL. That will fix it.

Alright then. I just remember my computer couldn't run it originally, and had to have a separate machine with 8GB HDD and only had MW and Diablo 2 installed.

Thanks for that :)
People who use XP or Vista in 2023 are insane!

If you insist however, look into OpenMW, the open-source implementation of Morrowind if the normal GOG version does not work. They dropped support for XP and 32-bit a while back, but Vista 64-bit apparently still works.

Yeah, of course I'll be running OpenMW too, on my main PC. And I'll experiment with vanilla GOTY on a XP laptop for fun.

vistagamer82: What's the oldest version of Windows the GOTY version here on GOG is guaranteed to run on? XP, Vista?
avatar
AstralWanderer: Recently installed it on an XP system and it ran without any problems.

Fonzer: Only one thing i remember now, you better download the installer before on a new pc with a new browser if you still didn't.
As i don't know if win xp has any browsers compatible with gog site for offline installers anymore...
avatar
AstralWanderer: This issue has been raised (and a solution given) in the Gog "Games" account page will not load thread.
avatar
Sheershaw: Seconding this advice, XP is horribly outdated and insecure, so if you're gonna use it make sure it never connects to the internet.
avatar
AstralWanderer: Any version of Windows is insecure unless you take steps to lock it down - XP has the advantage that there is more software available to do this (and, unimpeded by Kernel Patch Protection, can work at a lower level to be more effective).

In comparison, Windows 10 offers hideous performance (requiring about 10 times the memory footprint of XP) along with inbuilt adware, spyware and foistware - all of which pose their own security issues. Configuring XP securely isn't easy (a decent application firewall and process control software should be considered essential) but it can be done.
I am not a Windows shill. I am using Arch Linux right now. But to say that modern versions of Windows are less secure than XP of all things is so dangerously irresponsible to say that I would suggest anyone seriously offering that advice be charged by the law.

There is no reason for an XP installation to connect to the internet, ever. If you do not want to update to a modern version of Windows, switch to Linux.
