0Grapher: To me, vanilla means: The game as it was made by the developers.

At the moment, there are a few things that OpenMW does not yet do well and if you are affected by that, you should be able to play your game in its original engine. I try to point as many people as possible to OpenMW but I try my best to inform people about the advantages and disadvantages of using it.

dtgreene: What are those things that OpenMW does not yet do well?
The AI: a few behaviours are missing, enemies have a hard time following you. Performance on AMD hardware is not good. The compatibility with mods has not yet reached the point where all mods that don't require third-party programs are compatible, though that is often due to the poor code of the mod makers. Performance problems with some hardware and load orders.
Minor things, such as water walking working properly, rain effects on water.
It does not yet offer features comparable to many of the third-party programs' important features. (for example fixed pickpocketing).
Gabriel knight 3 ask disc also.. That fucker.

but have you tried the last version? because I played with version 0.36 for a while and there was some problems but I then upgraded on version 0.39 and it is really a great improvement.

I'm aware of the massive performance and AI improvements since then, but I still wouldn't recommend using OpenMW to everyone yet. I would definitely encourage everyone to try it out. It is great! However, at the moment I think it is the better option for idealists or open-source enthusiasts, non-Windows users and programmers, though not for everyone, yet.

A little back history....Monday, my original computer quit working. It was old, so I went to the local computer dealer and bought a new one. I had the guy transfer data from the old machine to the new one...and yes there WAS a hidden previous edition of Morrowind installed into my new computer. I found it; and deleted it. Now everything is fine and Morrowind is working great. Thanks for all the suggestions

Well I played all Morrowind (main quests + Tribunal and Bloodmoon + some secondary quests)... It is true that I played it on a mac, but I haven't experience any problems in version 0.39 and I really liked the performance and swim on water in comparation with the wineskin port of the game (for a game old like morrowind use wine mean the same performance of windows).
that's why I would recommend using it even on windows. At least to try both method and decide.
