tfishell: "the unargubaly best and definite edition of "Tie Fighter" is the "Collector's CD-ROM Edition 1995". it is basically the old 1994 DOS version with the following enhancements:

- SVGA-resultion (640x480 - the double resulotion of 1994 DOS-version)
- full voice-over (also used later in the 1998 Windows version)

- includes the expansions "Defender of the Empire" as well as "Enemies of the Empire " (GOG does have these)
- enhanced cinematic cutscenes

however, this version is NOT included in the GOG-release. the reason for this is beyond me."

X-Wing:

"I'm sure the 1998 version is ok, but it doesn't have iMUSE and forces you to use a joystick, whereas with 1993 you lose the graphics advantages that came with the Collector's CD-ROM. Call me Goldilocks but you could have nailed it by including the 1994 version."

"This does not include the best version of the game, X-Wing Collector's CD-ROM, the version that had digital sound effects"
All true.

Also: the '98-versions lack the dynamic iMuse midi soundtracks and replaced that with CD-audio tracks from the movie soundtracks and low-quality midi recordings. Also, the voice files of the `98 versions are of lower quality than in the previous CD-Rom release, for some reason.
This is awesome GOG! This is why I love you. Can't wait to grab them all... except I'll have to wait because the BRL is plummeting harder than a cartoon anvil on Jupiter and my pockets are not overflowing with money right now.

Eh, I'm a patient guy and I'll grab them all eventually. Maybe I'll even get to play them!
Hey, I remember Outlaws!

I didn't remember it looking so ugly though... XP

Never heard of that Indy game...
this does not make your commandos censoring forgotten gog!

Elmofongo: I know about the reviews but they did not really properly say why the 95 DOS CD ROM versions are better than the windows 98 version.

I'll be honest, I've never played these games so I don't know the fine details, but these versions seem important to a lot of people so I encourage GOG to get them.

And the original Monkey Island game has 500+ votes now, so that seems important to people also.
That's because you can play the game as it was (classic mode) but only in English in the Special Edition.

You don't think Voiceover, enhanced cinematics double resolution and the expansions without being forced to use a joystick is enough?

Excellent, the wishlist can expand a little more again :-)
OUTLAWS! FINALLY! WOOT! WOOT! WOOT!

Ahem. And in other news, I'm a little excited about one of the titles...
These are really great games that got released! Good bye, money...
(Can you guys please not quote my entire wall of text? ;) I didn't mean to pull the seemingly entire focus away from some fantastic new releases, just wanted to remind GOG we haven't forgotten about different versions many people want.)

Will buy all six of them, as hopefully most users around will do!
Anyways, I was wondering why you chose this

approach. There are still enough titles missing to do release them in a final wave! Why did you decide to bring them in gradually instead of "wave-like"?
(this isn´t accusing you, just wondering what those reasons are!)

Elmofongo: Is that it?
Yeah. It doesn't mean that the '98 versions are bad, per se. It's just a number of details that add up to a somewhat diminished experience, at least IMHO. That's why I'd love to see the original CD-Rom releases for both games here. :)
I don't see Soccorro: has he fainted, already? OUTLAWS! XD

All right, I have wishlisted ALL the games. Now I have to choose which one to buy first! :P

I simply prefer a Windows game than a DOSBox game. Besides a Joystick is the right way to play flight sims.
