What's next, titles on sale with a 1% discount? Clearly, 5% off is just a marketing ploy by the game developer to get the game onto the front page among titles that are up to 75% (or more) off their regular price, while offering up mere peanuts in return to the customer. 10% off should be the absolute minimum for a title to earn discount/sale status and visibility, anything less is a joke. On the other hand, if they want to lower their regular price by 5%, then they can do so without pretending that they are offering a discount. At the very least, discounts lower than 10% shouldn't be front page material, the GOG algorithm should push these sham discounts way back in the product listing and not let bad actors game the system...

It's on the front page because it's a new game, dude. Not because it's on sale.

Every single discount is nothing else but marketing. Especially discounts of 75% or more. Publishers keep the "standard" prices at ridiculously high levels to make people go "OMZG bazillion percent off, must buy!!!" In reality, you're just buying a game at its normal price when you get it in a sale... So instead of asking for a minimum discount of 10%, you should be asking for a maximum discount of 33% (or something like that). This'd make it possible to buy games outside of sales again.

Current sales are pretty anti-customer. There are four or five occasions a year where gamers buy a ton of games. In the end they won't even play most of them, because they lose interest in them while still playing the games they got on the sale before. This wouldn't happen when publishers would set reasonable prices for their games and give reasonable discounts every now and then. Shit, I just had to give you a +1 for that one. Must be because of christmas time being pretty near already oO

This is where the GOG sales spreadsheet (and similiar website for Steam) are particularly valuable.

It allows me to tell the difference between an attractive discount and the natural price of a game. Probably a common prefix. It certainly isn't me.

While this is very true, I also think some games here are way too pricey when considering what one gets & the age of the game(especially when compared to other stores).

but i must admit i laugh when i see 5% because its so blatant an' redick. i do wonder if, like teh op, it has teh opposite effect than is intended on some consumers an' theyre turned off by teh product, whereas they would not be even if there was no discount atall
