The annoying thing is that it is so rarely on sale!

Liberteer: I feel the best deal is to get it on Ebay. A lot of people are selling their accounts for as low as 3 bucks. You're basically well protected if you buy it with Paypal.
Actually, this piqued my interest. I checked around, I haven't found any $3 ones, but I see accounts as cheap as $8, except all the different ranks and stuff confuse me, and the descriptions don't help, and they all seem to specify regions...is the game region locked?

Minecraft's going to be one of those games like Counterstrike that just never dies because so many people are familiar with it, even though its gameplay and aesthetic is nothing special these days.

PookaMustard: 2009 I believe. By now, the game has matured and expanded into every console and every device you can name (minus consoles like the PS2).

Whether the internet has died on the Minecraft phase or not, just get it. It's pure fun, what's holding you back?

BoxOfSnoo: No, THIS.

Crazy amounts of stuff to do, amazingly moddable, and they just keep coming out with free updates. It's still gonna be worth it at the higher prices but wouldn't you rather have that extra money in your pocket?
This. Mods are what keeps Minecraft alive on PC. I haven't played Vanilla Minecraft in years, but I've played the shit out of various modpacks. I expect to continue to do so periodically for years to come.

Really?
Haven't been able to find anything that plays quite like Competitive Counter Strike.

Nothing beats Dota in terms of competitiveness because of its own community toxicity.

Death threats, racist remarks, vulgar insults every.single.match.damnit!
They're probably taking a leaf from GOG's page. I remember the official site recently mentioning that they temporarily disabled gift purchases with credit cards because of fraudulent transactions.

So... that's nice.
I don't speak Russian, if I could CS GO might be the same.

I couldn't tell precisely, but most people who sell these accounts are actually reselling them from people who no longer want them. Now, you could always contact the seller and get your answer. That's what I would do. I got an old Minecraft account for 3 bucks which I've migrated to my Mojang account. Everything's working perfect for a year and more now. I think that's the best way to go it you're on a shoe-string budget (and who isn't these days if you're paying your own bills).
I never knew it had regional pricing (for Russia). I followed the link and had a good laugh.
Microsoft knows how to entertain gamers. :D
I'm probably the only kid in town who has never played this.
Looks... a little boring, to be honest.

It is, quite literally, what you make of it.

Care to elaborate a little more? I mean, crafting this days is something that has gone completely outta hand!

As I understand it (granted, I haven't really followed the game in several years and numerous things have been added since then), it is all about building stuff. You look for materials, then you build stuff. There isn't (wasn't) any sort of quest line or direction, just "here's a world, enjoy!"

It isn't really my thing, because I like having quest lines and some sense of direction. But if you like just building whatever you can dream up, then Minecraft is pretty awesome. A friend of mine made a ziggurat, with steps, torches on each plateau level, the works. I've heard stories of what has been built, things like a scale model of the Enterprise, and the entire city of Westeros.

So my statement is meant literally: "Minecraft is literally what you make of it."

Well, if you don't like crafting, then Minecraft is not for you, that's for sure. It's all in the name, you see. Mining and crafting is pretty much the basis of the whole game, so... Sure, there are other things to do (exploration, building, farming and fighting for instance), but mining and crafting form the basis of it.

Bookwyrm627: snip
Whoa! Thanks!
Still, don't think I would enjoy myself that much, that's for sure. Gotta give it a go sometime, still.

Yep, I agree. Thanks to you, to, wish-knogle.
Can't say it isn't for me, since I didn't play it the way it should be. But, nah, all this craze regarding such games makes me scary ;P
