Agreed--excellent game with tons of potential for future follow ups. It definitely has the general flavor of the old M&M games, but the graphics and sound are s000-o-o-o-o-o much better, imo (and I've played through the old games more than once.) It also doesn't limp along like the older games but is fairly energetic in that there's always "something" around the corner that needs investigating. In the older games--I'm sporadically running through M&MVII again--there are *long stretches* of sleep-inducing music and uneventful traveling in between locales jam-packed with activity (where the fun/fighting really concentrates.) Still a great fan of the original games--X is an excellent start at a new beginning for the franchise--here's hoping that's not wishful thinking.

StingingVelvet: Yep.
Might and Magic X is so good, and something that needs to be supported, that I would still recommend it.

I'm a huge fan of the series, but I never really liked the sci-fi aspect of the first eight games in the series.

Agreed, IMO doesn't make sense to mix sci-fi and fantasy which is a big reason why I can't get into Wizardry, Final Fantasy's and the like... Greatswords and spaceships don't go together

Ahh man.. I have planescape too ( I'll still try it ).. Am working on the D & D stuff now ( Icewind Dale ) although it's a good game, can't compare to the mighty BG games.

I'm necroing this thread as I was looking for opinions on this game, now that it's on sale at Gamersgate. And I might make myself a topic called 'Might and Magic X' to ask for your opinions, but with my necromancer skills I can also resurrect a thread with that exact name.
So, apart from the atrocity of U-Play DRM (which I have on my computer anyway, as it's the only way to play Valiant Hearts), is this game a good buy for lovers of MM VI-VIII and the sale a solid reason to make this my second U-Play riddled game?

Can't tell you about the game itself, but you can get the game cheaper from GamersGate (still a Uplay key, but you'll pay half of what you would pay at the Ubi store). If you played the M&M 3-5 and liked them, this is not a good buy. It's an awesome buy So, apart from the atrocity of U-Play DRM (which I have on my computer anyway, as it's the only way to play Valiant Hearts), is this game a good buy for lovers of MM VI-VIII and the sale a solid reason to make this my second U-Play riddled game?
It's one of the most underrated Ubi releases. Limbic did a great job on making it. Great party creation. The usual first person view. Turn based combat. Tiled movement. It's a bow to the old, while being fresh. Not that Ubi cared enough to promote M&M X: Legacy.
I loved every minute spent with this game, as is mostly old-school gameplay. You get over an area where is a monster that you can't beat?! Well, get back to it a few levels later. It has secret areas, great music. and an epic mood. Dunno what elese you can ask from it. From the modern stuff, prolly Grimrock 2 is the closest (that in case that you did not played M&M 3-5). But M&M X is as much of the dungeon crawler as is of an open world game. You get them both and they are both nicely done. And no M&M RPG is complete without the obelisk puzzles, of course. :)
P.S.: grab the Deluxe Edition, as you get a dungeon that is exclusive to the Deluxe Edition, the soundtracks and the big DLC, too).
