Yesterday Kotaku informed that Microsoft is very close to buying Obsidian: https://kotaku.com/sources-microsoft-is-close-to-buying-obsidian-1829614135. That's very bad news guys. Microsoft is not EA, but we can forget about classic RPG's. Next Pillars of Eternity will be probably in 3D and with a combat system that relies on fast clicking. I speculate that Obsidian can be also made to do a continuation of Horizon Zero Dawn. Both of this options are bad for classic RPG fans. It's almost certain we'll see a "BioWare-ization" process of this developer. A sad day indeed. There will be Larian and inXile left on the battlefield... Not counting the smaller studios.

Sad, but Obsidian isn't what it used to be anymore anyway.
Also, inXile hasn't been able to keep a single promise. Only Larian remains among the "neither big nor small trustworthy RPG makers", as far as i know.

I fail to see how that is a bad thing, as it is apparently a great game... However, it is also a Sony exclusive game, and as with most of their exclusives, I'm fairly sure they own the rights to it. Except both of those Dev studios were acquired by Microsoft after DRM-free versions were already promised to backers and/or the game was already released. If it were up to MS, those games would be Windows store exclusives.

Yeah. That was my mistake. I thought it's an Xbox One exclusive, not a PS4 one. We can get something that resembles Horizon Zero Dawn however. The problem is that we get one less classic RPG developer.

Makes me wonder if it's necessary to buy Pillars of Eternity 2 and Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice just in case Microsoft orders Obsidian to pull them from the store. I didn't buy them yet because as a rule, I don't buy games before they're dropped to a low price point some years after release, as I have such a huge backlog anyway, I probably won't play them until many years after release.

Just when I thought A games were starting to return and show their worth to publishers. Obsidian is partially to blame if they're solvent but big publishers still haven't learned from the past.

Oh no, I hope they do not do uniqueness of the Microsoft Store as it already happens in some games.

First, it is Kotaku as the source so I take it with a large grain of salt.

Second, why would Obsidian agree to this when it was MS who almost put them under when MS pulled the plug on Stormlands?

Third, if it does happen, Obsidian will never get out a game before MS closes the studio. No company in the game space - not even EA - destroys more good/great studios and IP than MS.
