I'm fucking hungry now.
$7.5 billion is way too much for GitHub. Disney bought LucasFilm for less than than - i.e., $4 billion - just five years ago, (and has been squeezing Star Wars dry since then.)

I heard - overall it's probably a good thing for me, and a bad thing for the community. I'm already tied into MS platform and services, after 15 years of .NET development I'm bound to their tech. TFS git is pretty good, but lacks full tooling, I expect they'll try and roll Github in place of that, provided a nice jump in functionality.

For those that hate it, of the likely Github eaters (I'd suggest you've got Google, Facebook, Oracle, HP, Amazon, or maybe SAP as those big enough to eat it) which would you guys have prefered?
Still SVN/ Trac here via a third party service. No plans to change.

We do all of our client's upgrades via scripts. if we were to change to git, we would have to rewrite everything.

I wonder if they even turn a profit. :)

My first judgement is that it would be bad. But as long as it doesn't affect the Git program itself, it won't affect me, since I keep my source code in a repo on a private server rather than on Github.
I wasn't expecting this at all, not sure what will happen with GitHub now. I got an account on GitLab too so might move there but best to wait and see what this really means. It's big news for sure, GitHub is like Facebook for developers. It seems like Microsoft is trying to get into open source on many fronts.

Oh my.

Git is sooo much nicer. You maybe know this already though.

However, trac was amazing. I miss that.

Good for MS. They got some seriously valuable real estate, and also the foundation of Electron, which is huge.

Will OpenGL/Vulkan be forbidden? ; p
Or any, none UWP projects for that instance? ; >
I don't trust Microsoft at all, but that is only my opinion.
OpenGL, Creative EAX, Symbian.. Surely they can fuck up much more..

Projects can emigrate, even if that means work.

No, why would Microsoft want fewer users?

In general a healthy distrust of big companies is good, but this is a good thing. It's a massive stack of money thrown at open source.
I'm neither paranoid nor naive. Why Apple would?
OpenGL to be deprecated in the next macOS release
