Carradice: How do you think that Steam, Epic, GOG, and others will stand up to that?
Steam is supposedly working on its own subscription service, according to rumor. Also they now act as a delivery system for EA's subscription service, so maybe they'll eventually do the same thing for Microsoft and Ubisoft and the rest. Watch them turn into the Roku of games.

paladin181: Well, this made me sad today. I was rushing here to post the same thing as I just saw the news (I'm at work so I had to wait for a break). Just... WOW. I can't believe it. Can 2020 continue to get worse?
Sometime in November the United States will enter a civil war. In December an alien warship will appear in the skies above Earth and demand our immediate and unconditional surrender.
This may not mean the end of Bethesda games here -- Microsoft has bought Ninja Theory, Compusion Games, Obsidian, inXile and a few more, and their games are still available here. In the case of inXile, they have released Wasteland 3 here two years after the Microsoft takeover.
Maybe we finally get Skyrim (SE) and Fallout 4...

Ok people I guess I have to do all of the work for you.

I will purchase all MicroSoft and ZeniMax Media Inc., and Bethesda Softworks published video games from Steam to write a negative review about needing to have both a bethesda.net and a MicroSoft account to log in to play their video games.

Which sucks because I have not purchased a single video game from Steam since like 2012.

I will also write in my negative reviews that these video games must be released for sale on gog.com that are not already released for sale on gog.com.

Sigh time to spend thousands of dollars (USD) on purchasing video games.

It should be very much worth it I hope though.
War Never Changes; it gets bought by the highest bidder. :P
Zenimax sucks already for their dodgy business and money actions e.g arkane or prey 2 rumours and microsoft sucks for screwing up PC gaming.

I know Fallout 76 and horse armor are triggering to people, but honestly in the last 10 years I can't think of a better publisher than Zenimax when it comes to singleplayer games with quality DLC on the PC platform.

MysterD: I'd love to see Microsoft bring older titles to say GOG. Do they even have any here?

I hope a lot of the Bethesda titles stick around here on GOG.

But, man - this is crazy news. HUGE news.

Basically - Microsoft has a fair amount of the really good-to-great RPG Houses under one big Microsoft Umbrella & Microsoft Roof: InXile, Obsidian, and now Zenimax (with Bethesda Softworks).

Also, getting Arkane under there is huge too. I love Dishonored series, Prey 2017 us awesome, and I always wanted Arx Fatalis 2.

And Id Software and Tango for shooters/action games.

Does this mean a lot of those franchises that their games might go exclusive to both Windows and Xbox Consoles, basically shutting out Sony (PlayStation platforms) and Nintendo (Switch platforms)?

Could this all cause a Fallout New Vegas Remastered to actually happen?
If this actually goes through and doesn't get blocked on anti-monopoly grounds it will suck. Why are companies suddenly so eager to sell out to Microsoft?

B/c Microsoft has tons of $ and resources, why else?

I guess the other reason for Bethesda might be - how much $ did they lose on say Fallout 76, after all this time? I'd LOVE to know the answer to THAT one.

Maybe that's because of these allegations.
Bethesda has gets independent developers to start projects for them. During development, they say the developer isn't meeting undefined milestones/quality standards (that aren't laid out in their contract). Bethesda threatens to cancel production. ZeniMax offers to buy the developer in order to make up for the money lost due to their failing to "meet milestones." ZeniMax is the parent company to Bethesda. This has been going on for a long while, going by Madia's open letter.

Where did MicroSoft screw up PC gaming?

MicroSoft in the last year or two has been releasing all of their video games for sale for PC not just exclusively to the Xbox One.

They decided to release all of their PC versions of video games for sale on Steam as well and not make them require the Windows Universal Windows Platform (UWP) thingy.

You must have been not following MicroSoft news on their video games for at least two years.

§pectre:
I remember this going on w/ the original version of Human Head's Prey 2, which got cancelled.

I wish that game would get finished and renamed under another franchise...

...Namely since most now probably know Prey franchise from Arkane's Prey 2017, which was very System Shock 2-like.

The fact they did that in the first place proves my point.
