Eh. Once upon a time I might have cared, but not so much these days. *shrug* Just two more smaller devs being absorbed by the amorphous blob that is Microsoft (before they get dissolved or co-opted into other MS subdivisions a few years later).
With Obsidian it will mean no more day one buys since I'll likely have no choice but to go through the Windows store. This assumes that the Windows store is a install from the server service like steam and has no download with the installer option like GOG.

InExile is a bit more concerning to me. I am a part of the Wasteland 3 kickstarter. A big part of this is a release via GOG. Paying several hundred dollars for a game permanently tied to Microsoft's servers is a bad deal.
I don't have much optimism after looking at Microsoft Studios recent output of games https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Microsoft_Studios_video_games

RIP Obsidian
really sad news. I guess we wont see any of their upcoming games here.

I got a question: where's my early access and alpha access (early is in my $25 tier thanks to superbacker discount. Alpha is the $18 extra I pledged). Also will MS allow a release on Steam still, let alone DRM free? Or will my key be tied to the Windows store, where I cannot move it from my OS drive?
I hope their games won't be Windows Store only in the future. I've played a game from Windows Store once, as it was free and it was a bad experience: I couldn't choose an install location, I couldn't even find where Windows decided to install the game, it was nowhere to be found in Program Files. I couldn't opt to make a normal shortcut. I could drag and drop to the desktop the link in the W10 start menu, but then I got a shortcut without an icon and I had to find a logo of the game on internet and create an icon myself. The only 'proper' way to launch the game was from Menu Start, but I like to be able to install my games in C:Games and start them from a shortcut that I put in a special games taskbar in the sidebar (by making a folder with shortcuts a taskbar). No way did Windows Store allow me ownership of my games like that.

Needless to say, I couldn't even get a backup of the installer. FCKWINDOWSSTORE.

Too bad. No more DRM-free and Linux games from them most likely.
Really sad news, not least due to the below.

Obsidian was one of very few established studios I still bought games from. Pillars of Eternity 1 and 2 are very good games. No more of that now, and as a Linux-only gamer who don't use steam at all (nor of course the even worse alternatives), I can probably forget about any of their games in the future -- if they're even worth bothering with now. The quality will probably take a nose-dive anyway.

Still, very sad news. They mostly did things the right way, making interesting games with dedication and love, and supported Linux and DRM Free. All of that dead :-(
Time for GOG to find a deal with Microsoft...maybe to accept to buy CDProjekt !

CyberPunk 2077, only on Windows Store soon™.
I feel somewhat sad on the news. Shocked me that inxile wa aquired to (they kept that a great secret). I have my fears that their next games will be in the vein of "games as a service model" and on windows store only. We can only see what the future holds but least microsoft aint EA so theres that.
Let's just hope it doesn't affect their games on GOG in a bad way

misteryo: The lengths people have to go to to really OWN their games these days... SMH.
YMMD :-D
Because Microsoft needs...
DEVELOPERS! DEVELOPERS! DEVELOPERS!

XD
Is this mean another " xy game will be removed from Gog " thread ?
Maybe Microsoft is planning to develop (or is developing) Baldur's Gate 3?
I heard Beamdog lost all rights on Baldur's Gate. And also Brian Fargo said that he knows who is developing BG3 and he said that it is not Larian.
