I noticed that Metro games are on sale:

I own Metro 2033 on Steam and thought it would be nice to play Last Light.

I'm currently using Linux Mint 17.3 (simple, easy low-level Linux to get started) and I read that Metro: Last Light was Linux supported.

However, I can't find the specifics for it on GOG version:

http://www.gog.com/game/metro_last_light_redux

It only marks the game available for Windows, while on Steam it supports Windows, Mac and Linux:

http://store.steampowered.com/app/287390/

Am I missing something? What are the differences between the same game in two different platforms?

Thanks in advance.

This thread doesn't seem to think so:
http://www.gog.com/forum/metro_series/linux_osx_versions/page1
Or this one:
http://www.gog.com/forum/general/metro_last_light_redux_where_is_linux_client

But read through those and see if there's anything for you.
Edit: PCGamingWIki also says no.

So if I read it well, there is a Linux version out there which Steam is licensed to distribute, but Deep Silver, the publisher of Metro games refused to allow GOG to do so?

Kind of a dick move, and from what I'm reading about it, this isn't new, it's an issue dragging for almost a whole year :/

No, Deep Silver gave to gog.com the Linux and Mac versions (June or July last year can't remember when exactly) but gog is having "technical difficulties" with getting them to run on Linux and Mac. They are the ones holding back the release and not Deep Silver.

I linked you to the same thread twice, my bad. One sec.

Edit: That's better. Sorry about that.

Right, the update section clarifies it.

Too bad then. Would that mean then that if I buy the game now and GOG managed to get Linux version running in the future, I'd have to buy it again? Or could I buy the game now and have access to it as a Linux version as if it were an update?

You will get the Linux and Mac versions added to your library when they get available since gog doesn't sell OS specific version separately.
Alright. "Mystery solved" then.

I appreciate the quick answers. With this information in hand I think I'll buy Last Light and wait patiently for GOG to deliver.

Worst case scenario, I'll try to wine it :/

Thank you guys o7
It's a really good game, and most probably worth the wait. Unless they never update it, in which case it wouldn't be...
I purchased the series long ago and been waiting for Linux client. Thanks for heads-up, Matruchus!
GOG is holding at least the mac version back for a good reason, as the port is badly done and the mac version isn't working properly with nVidia graphic adapters. It's a known bug and you need to install special drivers for (you can check steams system recommendations to get more details on that topic) or upgrade to the latest MacOS. What's exactly the problem with linux I don't know, but I guess it's likely a similar problem, maybe not as extreme as for the mac.

Edit: Maybe it's a good idea to contact the GOGs technical service to ask them if they maybe want to take another look into that topic. In case if the nVidia did a good job for the drivers and the game runs now fine on the newest MacOS, it's likely also the linux driver were updated and GOG just needs to clarify that both versions need the latest drivers or updates.

Actually Linux version runs just fine under Steam for more then a year now so its not a driver issue: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f1JjWcbvupU

Man, don't do that kind of thing. Vote with your wallet and on the Community Wishlist. Don't show them that you give them your money anyway - it's quite likely that GOG won't get the ports.

What's most ironic is that Metro has an extremely great Linux port that even runs slightly better than the Windows version, according to I think two benchmarks I saw. I can recommend the youtube channel Penguin Recordings.
Over a year later and still no Linux version for 2033 or Last Light.
I wonder what the hold-up is?
Most probably GOG stopped bothering with the Linux version of these games. All I know is everywhere I look on youtube, the game is more than playable and from what I've seen numerous times it's a very well optimized port for OpenGL.

I wish GOG would just come clean and say what's wrong with it that it's not "worth" releasing.
