javihyuga: Among "the great four", the "thrashiest" is obviously Slayer, yet I greatly prefer others such as Testament, Exodus or Overkill.
Nevertheless, my ranking for these are:
Metallica with Mustaine > Slayer > Megadeth > Anthrax' first album >> Metallica (Post Ride the Lightning) >>> Anthrax
I like Slipknot... Says my 16 year old former self xD. I love thrash and certainly like (early) black metal. After discovering and diving into these genres, I quit listening to those guys because they just seemed noisy.
darthspudius: I liked them back in 98 also. I quickly grew up when I discovered Behemoth, Immortal and Vader. :D Nevertheless, my ranking for these are:

Behemoth used to be really good...

Surprised I haven't heard mention of the first winner in the "Hard Rock/Heavy Metal" category of the grammys...Jethro Tull.

Dalswyn: Polish bands prepped you up for Gog? ;) Behemoth used to be really good...
Flute is a heavy metal instrument! Problem here is that Jethro Tull are 10x the musicians that any of these bands are. ( I love some Tull) :D

In my memory, Demigod is very meh and what little I heard of them after it was of the same vein. Admittely, I haven"t listened to The Satanist, but I'll give it a try.

The Satanist is a lot more flavoured than Demigod. I liked that album too but I can understand why older fans didn't. It is leaning heavily on the Death Metal.

Certainly deserving of inclusion in the other list for sure. For me, with all these polls, almost every band mentioned is arguably deserving. They all had their peak great moments like no other bands. Especially Jethro Tull who could even include a flute and still be on the harder side of rock.

Elmofongo: A Guitar Magazine's Best Metal Album of the year award.
With Slipknot's at 1st place, Metallica's at 2nd and Testament's at 3rd :P
darthspudius: Slipknot winning a guitar award hahaha. Sweet mother of God. As someone loves a good Black/Death Metal album, I find Slipknot to be a load of noise and jibberish. It's truly awful. With Slipknot's at 1st place, Metallica's at 2nd and Testament's at 3rd :P

Slayer has less shitty releases than the other 3, but I think I like more the diversity on Metallica and Megadeth albums.
