Edited the post.
Thanks a bunch. ;)
I have just won an original copy of Mercyful Fate - Don't Break The Oath on eBay.
Peaceful metal for your Sunday afternoon:

The Gathering - Mandylion - Sand & Mercury

Saturnus - Martyre - Softly On The Path You Fade

Tiamat - Wildhoney - Gaia

Tarm: Dude. That is like a link to my baby metal days. Awesome feelings!
Excellent! Seriously great stuff. I think they're one of the best metal bands of all time. Dystopia is sub-par for them, but even all the way up through BOTH Something Wicked albums they are fucking phenomenal. If you haven't gotten to those albums, check them out, they took a little to grow on me (a lot of the best music does this to me), but now I listen to both albums straight through and there isn't a single song that I don't love.

Tarm: I got the Headbanger Balls episode when they go and watch Iced Earth play Colors on VHS. Heh.
I'm not familiar with that, any chance for a link? Colors is one of my favorite songs of theirs (the live version from the Melancholy EP rules all.) It helps with my rage against all the stupid people all over the place.
I love Tiamat but almost never listen to them anymore because my partner can't stand his voice. I keep telling her it took me a long long time to get used to his voice and to just listen to the music, but, eh, she can't.

How about two sets of cordless headphones? -> Then you and your partner can listen to music separately and everyone is happy :)

Here you go. :)

I love their first album. Seriously badass song and music writing. Fits my melodic metal love perfectly.
After that I think they lost focus a bit. Tried listen to their later albums but they bored me. Doesn't have the energy of the first. Dunno if they got more to my liking again because I stopped listening to their new albums. Their first is good and plenty enough for me. :)

You should definitely give them more of a chance! Hell, just listen to the Alive in Athens set for a while. Horror Show is also incredible, and, again as I said, the two Something Wicked newer albums are GREAT, some of their best stuff, and that is saying a lot, because, yes, they've rocked forever!
Another all time favorite metal band of mine, progressive metal -
They are an acquired taste for many, but, you must listen
avert your eyes from the singer if you must, but he can fucking sing, and, well, I can listen to and watch these guys for hours. Spectacular.

It's Dream Theater.

James LaBrie's voice is the reason why I don't like Dream Theater and rather like to hear John Petrucci's other projects.
I was singer in a prog-metal band for a while and the guitar guy was a huge Dream Theater fan so I had to hear them a lot.

I always preferred Pain of Salvation:

It took me a long long time to be able to get used to James LaBrie's voice. That is why I said what I did, but really, it is worth getting used to, IMO. The KEY I think is simply focusing on all the other things going on and just let his singing be notes that go along with everything else and in the background. There's so much going on, it's easy to switch focus to the other stuff, and really, his voice is very very good, just a little weird and takes getting used to. Plus, they have lots of in-between time when he's not singing, and purely instrumental songs as well (I figure you know because of having listened, but just putting it out there for others). But even so, if you can just not focus on it, it will eventually come around and you'll be able to appreciate how good of a voice he has and it won't bother you anymore.

Having a classical singing education and 20 years of practice myself, I personally don't think his voice/singing is very good, though I agree, that the other stuff happening in Dream Theater is pretty good, just a bit too clean for my taste in many cases.

Interesting. To me, he is one of the best singers because of his vocal talents. First of all, he actually sings, and then hits incredible notes and does incredible phrasings with such sustained power, I find it highly impressive now that I've gotten used to his sound. Here's some instrumental only though for those who might need a little warming up.

Ooof, I don't like anything cordless at all (cancer/brain tumor waves!) Also, I prefer music to fill the room rather than just in headphones. I do listen to them still, but perhaps not as often as I would otherwise. We frequently listen to our own musics while the other is around, it works most of the time. (:

So far, I haven't found any conclusive scientifically proven link between long term RF/EMF exposure and cancer.
Some people are more sensitive to these things than others, e.g. I know people who get headaches when they sleep next to a WLAN router that isn't turned off at night whereas other people don't feel a thing even when they're highly exposed for a long time. Who knows, maybe nature will do its natural selection thing and over the generations slowly weed out all the people that can't withstand the exposure and we'll devolve into a species with super tiny fingers that can type on smartphone screens and anyone who can't do this will not be able to reproduce because the mating ritual will require copious texting. Anyway, one can reduce exposure in your own home (unless you live in an apartment building and the neighbors use WLAN 24/7). I usually don't carry a cell phone and I don't use WLAN at home but that has to do with other reasons than health, mostly the "can't be arsed" reason :)
