At the Gates and Arch Enemy's new album makes this a strong Swedish and Death Metal year.

Probably posted here before but it goes so well with At the Gates. Arch Enemy - War Eternal.

MACHINE HEAD - Now We Die (OFFICIAL MUSIC VIDEO)
The recent At the Gates album makes me nostalgic.
So here's some sounds from the band The Great Deceiver that Tomas Lindberg fronted. Gosh I wish they made more music.

Lake of Sulphur
The Great Deceiver - Life Is Wasted On The Living (2007) A great album.

That is band I could never get into. The singer is like sticking an automatic drill in a microphone. Great musicians though.
alestorm-you are a pirate.

FRIGGIN AWESOME.

Yeah you've said that. I just think you just don't like aggressive singers.

Oh no I do, just none that are sooo high pitch. Maybe it's just my ears being overly sensitive but it hurts. I'm the same with early Cradle of Filth. Love the music but the vocals are bad. However I could listen to Shagrath and Abbath all day!

Just curious, have you tried listening to Angela Gossow era Arch Enemy? To me she's by far the best vocalist the band had, I'm not a huge fan of the new vocalist and I wasn't a fan of Arch Enemy's first vocalist either to be fair. You might wanna check out Michael Amott's non-extreme metal band Spiritual Beggars to see what he can do beyond metal, they've got some cool tunes like Killing Time.

I agree on the Cradle of Filth part because he sounds like a woman trying to sing like a man to me and it's making me not want to listen to them. Haven't listen to them for a lot of years though so I'm probably off on them.

So like I'm curious. Any growling death or metal bands you like with a female vocalist? What do you think of for example In This Moment?

And then there's bands like Xandria though far from standard metal.

Edit: I second Spiritual Beggars that NoNewTaleToTell mentioned. THE most kick ass metal band for like ages. :)

Spiritual Beggars are a great band. I believe one of their guitarists was in Armageddon. I have a couple of their albums. Good players. Though both vocalists are really not my thing. Which is a honest shame because I really like their music.
I'm an old man, but Iron Maidens '666'

[edit] should be a song in 'the witcher 3'

I like In This Moment. They have a lot of personality and their new album is very cool.

Dani Filth's vocals have deepened alot since Midian onwards. It really benefits the music as he generally sounds quite creepy in a lower register.

You have made a point actually, I can't think of a death metal band with a female vocalist that I have liked. Closest I could probably get to is Avatariums debut album. Fantastic stuff.

Avatarium you say? I've missed that band. Time to go netsearching.

It's run by the fellow from Candlemass. Doom Metal, fantasy lyrics and their singer have an incredible voice.
I went to see Overkill last weekend. They still kick ass.
