Picked up a couple of new albums recently. First up was the new album (power metal). Instrumentals got a bit heavier from the previous albums and overall I liked the change. However, vocals felt a bit disconnected from the instrumentals at times, and I was also a little disappointed they backed away from the style they explored with [url=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jirq0rz_0xo]Armod (I'm hoping they revisit it at some point). Overall a very solid album though.

Also just picked up Of Breath and Bone by Be'Lakor. Great melodic death metal, and I wish they had more than just three albums out (guess I'll just have to wait for them to release more).
Awesome stuff in this thread, thought I'd share some of my favourite metal bands, too:

Unexpect - The Quantum Symphony
Ihsahn - Arrival
Arcturus - Nightmare Heaven
Hypocrisy - Seeds Of The Chosen One

Once again, daily finnish metal supplement ;)

(in english) Wolfheart - Ghost Of Karelia

(in finnish) Stam1na - Panzerfaust
One thing I love about metal is how much energy it can unleash with comparatively little means.
Often it just takes one single riff or a guitar tone that has the right sound and your ears rejoice while you feel energy rushing through your body.

Take for example the beginning of this song:

The first three minutes are just one single riff (and some great drumming) but it will make you want to punch the air because you cannot contain all that energy infused by the song.

Another great example for simplicity done right is a band called OM. The duo just needs a bass guitar and a drumkit to create some incredible tunes that still resonate in your head after the song has arleady ended.

Since Reverend Bizarre and Candlemass have already been mentioned in this thread, I want to point your attention to another great doom metal band named Krux:

For those that enjoy a tasty blend of death and doom metal, I can heartily recommend Runemagick from Sweden:
