Elmofongo: Black Sabbeth
avatar
Stooner: How dare you?
FIXED.
avatar
GoodGuyA: I really do not like the Black Metal, Death Metal, or really most songs that just have a guy screaming in a grungy voice with now actual melody going along.
avatar
jjsimp: I never got really into Death Metal too much (Mainly just Cannibal Corpse The Bleeding Album), but once I heard and saw Decapitated - Spheres of Madness video, I started liking it a lot more. Can't seem to find the original video I saw for this.
avatar
Elmofongo: Do you like Glam Metal (Twisted Sister, Motley Crue, Poison, Ratt)
avatar
jjsimp: I have a hard time using Metal to describe those bands. Glam Rock is more what I like to call them.
Allow me to show you a better version of death metal called Melodic Death Metal and to me led by my Favorite band Dethklok:

Elmofongo: Do you like...
May sort of throw out my credentials, but I tend to like pop music, or at the very least music which has become popular overtime. I'm basically of level opinion of the 'greatest' ever bands with the average listener, though I'll freely admit I've got a lot more to explore. A lot of the indy stuff coming out nowadays though just doesn't do it for me though. I still have yet to listen to bands like Deftones though, so I've a bit of a ways to go to maybe redefine my tastes.

What I know I like though is that Bluesy rooted metal and hard rock (Zep, Sabbath, Purple), as well as the technical but not devoid of structure metal like Metallica and System of a Down. I do like searching for unique sounds rather than just admiring technical prowess, so I suppose that's where I diverge in the main metal fandom. Something that speaks by being musical is my favored type of music.

Ya, turned that off when he started singing. Just doesn't enthrall me to hear someone choke on a hairball in the name of making their melodic style 'heavy'. I tend to like the range vocalists, as I think that adds more power to a song.

Glad you saw that, I totally missed the typo. I thought he had a problem with you calling it Early Metal.

You are in PR and have a way to hear this type of music. I just visited San Juan and not even a Glam Rock radio station. it's good to have the internet. 20 years ago would have been stuck listening to whatever MTV wanted to show, but at least they had Headbanger's Ball back then.

I can understand that.
So, what is the genre with Death Metal Music with someone singing a melody?

Elmofongo: Do you like Thrash Metal: (Metallica 1980s, Megadeth, Slayer, Exodus, Testament)

Do you like New Wave of British Heavy Metal ( Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Motorhead, Ozzy Osbourne)

Do you like Glam Metal (Twisted Sister, Motley Crue, Poison, Ratt)

Do you like Hard Rock (KISS, Aerosmith, Van Halen, Ted Nugent)

Do you like Early Metal (Black Sabbath, Led Zepplin, Deep Purple)
Aside from the last category, I can't really agree with much of the categorising there

I blame Guitar Hero, but before Guitar Hero I basically had no music to listen too when the Radios here stopped playing any music from the states and just filled the local music, I used to like Pop of the 90s and Early 2000s and Michael Jackson and the only kind of Rock I was exposed to liked Trapt and Alien Ant Farm.

I was hesitent with the more extreme heavy metal music (Because I was Christian God-Fearing young boy back than), but I grew to love it and its my staple of metal.

(Thrash Metal is my go to metal)

But even when Guitar Hero died I still stick with the music.

I must admit before Metallica's black Album, I was into Alternative Rock (You know Depeche Mode, REM, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, etc).
I had heard One and loved that, and had also heard Metallica's other three albums, but only originally liked One.
Metallica's Black Album and my roomate's good taste in Metal converted me.
Now, I rarely listen to the Black Album and never listen to any of Metallica's newer Albums.
But Thrash is my favorite with Metallica first three Albums, any Megadeth Albums, and Slayer. Occasionally I will branch out to the other Genres.

Elmofongo:
You didnt - I'd say your thrash is safe n sound! :)

- what i was on about was... (highlighted in bold, reason in brackets).

Do you like New Wave of British Heavy Metal (Just heavy metal - not new wave at all - prior stuff (you labelled early metal) is plainly just metal.).

Do you like Glam Metal (Uh? What? - Thats Trash rock or Sleaze)

Do you like Hard Rock (KISS[,) (Glam rock mate - the others all fit in though!).

These are the standards DJs, Journos, Promoters and Venues tend to go by (if they know their shit) - at least in my experience since 1996.
I'm not trying to spark an arguement either - i just genuinely snorted wine OUT of my nose when I saw KISS not labelled with any kind of "glam", then i took a closer look at your other brackets.

MY sinuses hurt now btw!

heheh!

;)

Metallica's Black Album songs are ok if you just listen by in a radio while driving a car or playing GTA and personally Metallica Circa Black Album years was still Metallica imo.

Also I think ...And Justice For All is their best album, to me it was the most Darkest and most Thrash of their career.

But these days as of now I just cannot listen to anyother thrash but Slayer these days, Hell Awaits is their best song.

1. Yeah I always thought the word "New Wave of British Heavy Metal" should be replaced by now with just, "Heavy Metal"

2. I never heard of "Trash Rock" unless you said that as in insult to the bands I listed and really hate "Glam" Rock.

3. KISS has been thrown around as Hard Rock I watched Metal: A headbanger's journey and Metal Evolution, so Sam Dunn is Wrong?

And 1989 was their most thrash tour promoting the album:

Yeah, I corrected him earlier on that...I always heard it called Glam Rock not Glam Metal. KISS, I just hate lumping with those other bands, but you are right they really are a Glam Rock Band.

My point was more Poison etc, are not glam. But glad you agree with the KISS factor! ;)

I mainly listen to Metallica's Kill Em All, but I do listen to the other three albums before the Black. I just like his vocals better behind the music.
Slayer, I listen to most of their albums. Probably Reign in Blood, I mostly listen to, but all the other ones up to and including Divine Intervention get regular airtime.
