Ok, so it's my understanding that in MGS1, the pc does limit some gameplay elements from the first game. does the Psycho Mantis boss fight include some controller gimmicks like having to switch?

On PC, if you use a gamepad, Psycho Mantis will dodge all your attacks. You'll have to switch to the keyboard to fight him.

Thanks. The whole vibrating control thing doesn't happen though, right?

No, it doesn't. The scene is omitted in the PC version.

Gotcha. on PS2 or other consoles you had to use controller slot 2. When i played this game originally in.... 1999? I didn't have a controller so only fought him with keyboard and don't remember it being too difficult. That was probably why though...

Regardless, if you fight for a while and aren't getting anywhere, you'll get the hint directly via radio for what you're suppose to do. Or it did in PS1 anyways.

As I recall, you do, but of course they didn't re-record that one bit of dialogue, so the subtitles say 'keyboard' but the audio is still 'other controller'.
I think another solution is to destroy the statues although not sure if that is in the PC port. Might also need to call Campbell/die to Mantis several times so Campbell calls and tells you the fact.

They couldn't ask him to come in for re-recording?

Although this would be a great use for that one sound suite they aren't releasing, where you could take a sample of a voice and then use that voice to say something it didn't say by extracting vowels and speech patterns, to then fix localizing and ports.
