kohlrak: i just had another issue with a classic installer trying to install galaxy. it's since been fixed, but i've had it with the shenanigans.

goldfishfingers: Which game installer was that? That sounds really sneaky.
not 100% sure, but i think it was tangledeep. I was installing a couple games at the time. It seems fixed though, whichever game it was.

drealmer7: I certainly haven't been buying nearly as much the past year+ as I would have had GOG not put a shit taste in my mouth that is no longer going away.

I used to tell gamer friends about sales, link them to on-sale games that I thought they'd like, advocate for people purchasing here instead of elsewhere.

stopped doing that over a year ago too because if GOG doesnt' give a fuck why should I?
Same sentiment here, although I have stopped purchasing from GOG altogether since the optional-but-hidden-opt-out client situation appeared.

excellent! I just checked and I've spent $6.86 since they did that (and that was only for DLC type stuff: Hard West extras and KIM soundtrack)

and I don't anticipate buying anything until the UnderRail expansion

and then I probably don't need to buy any games ever again (:

You don't need to use the client, people's gaming status is being broadcasted in one's chat under their name, even on the site. At least that's how it was from the very beginning, and if I'm not mistaken (which is possible), still is.

It's only a minor chunk protest on my part now, it's like you are saying, the shit taste of things mostly. For me, they've diligently worked towards making me resent GOG. And games I've got enough too ;)

Oh yeah, I remember that noticing in chat a longer while back. When you mentioned they broadcast to your "inbox" I thought e-mail, and that would be super odd indeed. Get what you meant now. Still, why have they introduced this feature without the option to keep that private? Just a rhetorical question now, this.
Almost a week and still radio silence. They may have run out of arguments, or realize their arguments didn't hold water, or just be unwilling to discuss things with me further. Perhaps they're still doing research. I don't know. Ticket is still open, and I'm still waiting for a response, and I will poke them after 1 week.

Are you sure that this also happens without using the client? I thought that if you don't use Galaxy you will be displayed as being offline when playing a game. Of course it' would still not be a good thing that you are not able to turn it off but so far I was not aware that the gaming status will be displayed no matter if you have Galaxy running or not. Probably might test this later.

Looks like my wording was confusing, so let me rephrase that with an example.

Let's say you use the client, and I don't. If I go into my chat on the site, and you have the client running, then you show as online to me, even if you're not logged in on the site. Now, if you start playing a game on the client, your status in my chat changes and states which game you're playing.

At least that's how it was from the introduction of the NAS and until the chat revamp, and regardless of if we're befriended or not; it may well still work the same (since the revamped chat was first designed and implemented for and in the client where apparently this sort of thing is regarded as a feature), I just haven't checked as I'm not in the habit of stalking people.
I'm starting to hear more from devs, myself, and i'm starting to hear some interesting answers from them. However, since some of them are actually still working with gog, I don't want to mention who they are or what they're saying. Actually, quite supportive of GOG, but at the same time, based on what they're saying, you can clearly see that GOG most definitely isn't clean enough to be a sacrificial lamb. I get this distinct image that gog is as boneheaded with the devs and getting on the devs' case as they are getting terse with us forum users. And, that's just the start of the problems. But, I do need to clarify, it seems to be coming out to more of a 50-50 clash where gog would benefit from swallowing it's damn pride.

Yes, that is still the case. As long as at least ONE person uses the client the other can see which game he is playing or if he is online.

Are we sure about this? Most of my games never asked winblows firewall for permission to make outgoing connections, which would be necessary, no?

No need for the game to get permission - it's all Galaxy afaik.

So, then, the question is whether i ever let it get connection when trying it out. I've since uninstalled the client. Tempted to test for sure?

How do you want to test it? I would help you if you like.
