I am currently replaying a game from my teen years, called Knights of Honor ( awesome game by the way). So i will politely ask you to suggest me other similar games ( playing in medieval setting, controlling a country from the time period and so on). Please do not suggest the total war game. For some reason it doesnt click with me. I am more intrested in managing my kingdom, than in the military aspect. I will be very gratefull for any recommandations :P

P.s. it would be nice as well if the time period of the game is before the introduction of the firearms( so earlier medieval ages)

EDIT: "Crusader Kings 2" is the winner i think :)

My recommendation would be Stronghold. https://www.gog.com/game/stronghold
Probably, Knights and Merchants: The Peasants Rebellion.
Also, Lords of the Realm: Royal Edition, but it has strong military aspect. :)
Maybe some game from Anno series. Haven't played them.
If you're not particularly looking for military Crusader Kings 1 (available here) and 2 (only on Steam at the moment) might be what you are looking for.

They're kind of dynasty management grand strategy but they are set in the right time period and combat isn't a major part of them if you don't want it to be.
Crusader Kings.
Castles(Castle?)
King Arthur The Roleplaying Wargame*
*loose recommendation as fighting is more prevalent than country management

I was gonna say "pick the French and screw the HRE" but then I saw that you don't care for the Total War series. :D

Mount & Blade Warband?

There is not much strategy involved but you can conquer castles and cities.
I second Stronghold.
If it can be a setting other than European, I recommend Emperor: Rise of the Middle Kingdom

Someone plays it?! OMG! I cannot seem to get the hang of the kingdom managing aspects :-(

Uhmm, something similar, still medieval..... ugh! Cannot think of anything. There are quite a few set later in history though.

Try searching for "grand strategy"

Played it, love it :D ( like crusader more :D) however, stronggold is not exactly what i am looking for. It is castle managment game and not country managment one. Nevertheless, i enjoyed it a lot :P

I was thinking about Crusader Kings. What worries me is how much the focus is on dynasty management, raher the on country managment. However, this is i think the closets to what i am looking for and i havent played it.

Like this one a lot. Very relaxing and beautiful game. It is however a city building/managment game. Thank you for trying :P

Yeah, playing and waiting for GOG finally to release it here :D. If you have more specific questions about the kingdom management, feel free to ask. If by that you mean the economics aspect, just boost your kingdom power and hire merchants ( a lot of them at the beginning of the game). :D

Already googled 'grand strategy', many nice games, but not exactly in the period i am looking for ( crusader kings seems the closest option for the moment) :D

vsr was right to recommend Anno 1404. I think it'd just what you are looking for.

Caesar 3. Not medieval, but Roman empire stuff. Good stuff too. A great city builder with some military aspects.
Not sure I'm understanding your criteria but I'll recommend you just briefly take a look and might be able to quickly rule it out. Unfortunately I don't think it's available here so this is a Steam link.
