Hey gamers,

I am trying to run this game (after a long search for it) on windows 10. I managed to get past few errors but sadly, now the game crashes right after the game intro with no error what so ever.

Note: I am running it in windows XP (service pack 3)
Note note: I have to crack the game since I don't have the CD anymore and the game doesn't sell anymore

Any help would be superb but I don't have much hope.

These links shows it as abandonware and free to download:

https://www.old-games.com/download/9382/medieval-lords-build-defend-expand

https://www.myabandonware.com/game/medieval-lords-build-defend-expand-bg4

The last link has a comment on how to get it to work in Win10
Try it at your own risk.

"Here is how I managed to get this awesome game working in Windows 10:

1. Download the fix file on this page [edited]

2. Unzip (unrar) the downloaded file. Then unzip the two rar files that are contained in it. One of them is a Medieval_Lords.exe file, the other is a StdMatDX8.fx file.

3. Copy the Medieval_Lords.exe to C:\Program Files\Monte Cristo\Medieval Lords\BIN (or wherever you have installed Medieval Lords, I prefer C:\Games\ for older games), replacing the original Medieval_Lords.exe.

4. Similarly copy StdMatDX8.fx to the C:\Program Files\Monte Cristo\BIN\DATA\SHADER folder.

All done, you can now run the game in Windows 10!"

All it takes is one look at step 1 to see this solution is no longer possible (the page link has been removed).
Found this solution (it's for Win7, should be prolly the same for Win 10) - https://www.fixya.com/support/t7872937-run_medieval_lords_windows_7_please

For the patch, use this link from archive.org - https://web.archive.org/web/20150619202328/www.gspsupport.co.UK/media/patches/Medieval_Lords.exe

And a good thing too, otherwise I probably couldn't have posted the tip. ,)
It does hint at the solution though. It's related to DirectX8.
And seeing as he already has a fix for his game..well..
I know this is a dead post but I've just a managed to make it work so I'll post the solution for anyone that is looking for it .

1. Download both the game and the fix from myabandonware (Vendor-Lazarus post), for some reason my disk installation did not work with the fix(I guess it's because the version I have is 1.0.0 and the fix is for the last patch but I haven't tried it).

2. Unzip the game files and mount a virtual disk with them (I used powerISO for this).

3. Open the virtual disk and click on setup.exe to start the installation process, once the wizard ask you whether you want a direct acccess or not kill the process in task manager, otherwise the installation wizard deletes all game files it has just installed.

4. Apply the fix following Vendor-Lazarus steps.

5. Open the game by clicking on the Medieval_Lords.exe you've just copied in the previous step.
