Bring on the metric ton of shovelware! Hooray!

Even more crap I get to ignore. Oh, joy. Guess there will be really no reason anymore for me to browse for games other than discounted AAA titles.
Valve have announced plans to hugely widen the number of games they allow onto Steam

=D
Meh, makes no difference to me. I don't use the Steam site or client to find new games I might interested in, just to buy and play. So basically, I already know what I want to watch for in Steam sales. More shovelware won't affect much for me.
I must be confused because the biggest change they are making there is that the entry fee for selling games on Steam changes from one single $100 donation to Childs Play for unlimited games, to a $100 - $5000 (still to be decided) recoupable fee per new game.

So how do you come to the conclusion *this* news is about bringing on a metric ton of shovel ware?

Greenlight also requires a number of users to vote for "allowing" the game to be available on Steam. With Direct, they remove this step entirely.

Lately there's hardly been any difference there though, games have been getting through Greenlight en masse.
Great! I can't wait to play the latest games from Tigital Vomicide.

I also recall people thinking that the $100 fee to get into Greenlight would be enough to drive the riff-raff away.

Just when I thought it couldn't get any worse (Valve-wise), the universe reminds me it offers endless possibilities...

I know. I think I read somewhere there were even groups of users that could vote for the game in question for a price or something like that.

Just pointing out the only difference between the two systems.

Nearly 40% of Steam's entire catalog was released In 2016...

I assume you meant to say the only 'other' difference :)
Seemed like a 1st April joke but no :o)

I'm very curious about what will be the exact financial terms for the devs (regarding the fee, will the store cut be modified, etc).

Meanwhile as we don't have more infos, we can get a peek into the other side to see how the news is taken:

It’s too late. The damage has already been done.
