There is a massive file which can be found by this path:
C:\ProgramData\GOG.com\Galaxy\logs

I've included the screenshot below. The file is over 15 GB! What is this monstrosity and why did it appear

Yikes! I don't even have the file, and my Galaxy is generally working fine. But it might be a matter of specific games? Do you know when the file appeared?

You're probably fine deleting it but if you want to be safe, try moving it out of the folder and running the program again, or waiting to see if anyone else pops up saying they know what it's for.
15 Gigs is a lot of logs... too much... What is it storing I wonder?

I'd probably do a top command on it and see what the contents were...

You could try compressing it too, it will probably compress something like 30:1.

I think it appeared when I enabled beta client to turn on the overlay.

I've tried searching for overlay.lib but only found my thread. Mind linking some of the previous threads?

One of the solutions is to disable Galaxy's ingame overlay.
To GOG devs: Log rotation

Yeah, forget 30:1, you'll get 100:1 at that rate.

Logs won't be much help except identifying something critical. and 15Gigs is too much regardless how much duplication there is. Delete it.

Ahah, I found it yesterday... when i was wondering why my 250gb C:/ ssd is full when it has only some visual studio, and system + some launchers.... I found this file... it was a bit over 70gb!

o.O

Aw, mine's only 13KB. Although I do have a cef.log one that's over 1GB and a bunch of game-specific ones that go up to ~15MB, totalling at around 1.5GB.... All to unhelpfully tell me that something shat the overlay bed in this originally hidden folder. Yeeeeeah.

I assume it's safe to delete all of these junk files?
Really, GOG Galaxy should be doing it's own garbage collection, but that would require good coding practices.

I have 800MiB in total, the oldest ones dating back to May 2022. That's not so bad.
But it would save ~95% of disc space if the old ones were put into a RAR file, also ZIP or GZIP would be an option.

Or even rotating logs; who's going to need more than 5 of the last logs?
mmm... Might also just compress the whole folder, then any added files will be automatically transparently compressed with NTFS. Not the best compression, but it's a good tradeoff.
