[This is a sticky post, it will be visible in every single page of this thread. It has been published in October 2020.]

Our moderation team decided not to take a side in the discussion since this giveaway thread was created by the community and, as long as there are no forum rules violated, is up to you, dear Gogers, to decide its fate. We will not set giveaway rules, edit the OP's post, nor lock the whole thread.

However, to make it easier for newcomers to understand the situation (about the OP being inactive and other), I will stick my own post right above the first one.

You are, of course, free to create new threads to start anew and make your own, clear rules. At the same time, please stay reasonable when crating them, as multiple new duplicates might make it even more confusing for many Gogers.

That being said, here you can find a post with dxenija's community poll to have better understanding of the situation: CLICK.

At the time of writing, open giveaway threads are:
- Massive Giveaways Blog (this one)
- Free (temporary) keys giveaway central topic.
- Updated Itch.io giveaways

Be nice to each other *flies away*

TurdFerguson87: It's not a torrent file. Torrents convert files to torrents when you use that option, it still spits out the original. I was explaining the reason for the pop up is not because it is a torrent or anything of importance. It's just the fact it was a large file size and it was by recommendation to use it for the size, considering speed and bandwidth issues.

Engerek01: And it gives us the option to download the same file via torrent.
The original, actual game file itself is not a torrent file. When you use the torrent option, you're only using a different method of downloading the same file. Without using the torrent option, you only get the zip file that you have to extract.

He knows that Mr Ferguson.
A lot of the misinterpretation was my fault. I wasn't aware Humble even offered a torrent method.
I clicked on the link from my library after adding the game to my account, and got an immediate direct link to start downloading the zip archive. Engerek01 got a torrent instead, and commented thus.

That wasn't the point of my response, which had no reason for being downvoted. I was explaining why there was a torrent option, not the fact it exists. He seemed to repeatedly demonstrate a lack of understanding of how torrents are used from saying there was a torrent file in it. I'm just simply dispelling his misconceptions of it's existence.

Just to make sure, you are saying that the "Outcast-7693-DRMFREE.zip.torrent" file I downloaded from Humble Bundle is NOT a torrent file. Then what is it? Why did I need to download it to download the actual zip file? Can I download the actual file using torrent without downloading that file?

Feel free to downvote me guys. I know my fault and I welcome the punishment :)

EDIT: Put quotations around the file name to make it more visible that the file name involves the word "torrent".

Jesus Christ, guys, could you please continue arguing semantics using private messages? Pretty please? With sugar on top?

I am well aware that this is annoying for the followers of that threat and for that I am sorry. However, I had to continue since those idiots concealed a great opportunity since they couldn't read and assumed I was referring to the game file when I said "torrent file".

on HUMBLE BUNDLE, if you choose the torrent option, you get two files.

1. Outcast-7693-DRMFREE.zip.torrent : Which is a torrent file. You can use that file to download the game even after the time expires.

2. Outcast-7693-DRMFREE.zip: Which is the game file itself. You can download this 5.9 GB file using the torrent file at any time.

You're misconstruing what I've said. I never said you don't get a torrent file. I was clarifying it was an optional choice for convenience, which was clearly stated through opting to use the direct download option instead. Getting a torrent is not actually the game itself though since that's not how torrents work.

You didn't need to download it. It was just there to act as another channel to download the actual game instead of directly downloading it anyway.
