[This is a sticky post, it will be visible in every single page of this thread. It has been published in October 2020.]

Our moderation team decided not to take a side in the discussion since this giveaway thread was created by the community and, as long as there are no forum rules violated, is up to you, dear Gogers, to decide its fate. We will not set giveaway rules, edit the OP's post, nor lock the whole thread.

However, to make it easier for newcomers to understand the situation (about the OP being inactive and other), I will stick my own post right above the first one.

You are, of course, free to create new threads to start anew and make your own, clear rules. At the same time, please stay reasonable when crating them, as multiple new duplicates might make it even more confusing for many Gogers.

That being said, here you can find a post with dxenija's community poll to have better understanding of the situation: CLICK.

At the time of writing, open giveaway threads are:
- Massive Giveaways Blog (this one)
- Free (temporary) keys giveaway central topic.
- Updated Itch.io giveaways

Be nice to each other *flies away*

Bookwyrm627: You can edit your post so it says something like "I changed my mind about saying anything."
Good point. That honestly did not occur to me. Looking around, I even saw edit to "Deleted.". Still, if I may sidetrack for a little longer, is there any official explanation for this feature missing? I mean, it is pretty standard on forums and quite a few people asked for it here, there is a community wishlist for it, there are threads discussing it, but nowhere have I seen anything official. Is there any reason against implementing it?

The forums are about a decade old and haven't really had any feature updates since they were introduced. I assume a lot of it is hardcoded or something and therefore can't easily be updated.

If you go to the front page of the forums, you can even see very old layouts of Twitter, Facebook and YouTube on the preview images of GOG's social media pages at the bottom.

The community wishlist has said "beta" at the top for the past 8 years or more.

In my opinion, GOG needs a complete overhaul of their community sections.

twifight: I am still unclear as to what "the games are redeamable on the launcher" means for within those 72 hours, we'll see. Q1 was just... there. If it's the same as on Epic I'm fine with it.
avatar
BlueMooner: My guess is that you have to actually login with your launcher during that time. If you do, the game is added automatically, as with Q1. If you don't login during that time, the game isn't added. Instead of just adding the games to ALL beth accts, only those who login (and are thus "active") get them.
I assume login through the web wouldn't be enough to be granted "active" status?
I was trying to load the client through a VirtualBox VM but it doesn't seem to load. Nor does it work in "Sandboxie".
Anybody hear anything about Bethesda actively breaking their client from being able to work within confinements?

Also, to keep on topic, a bunch of itch.io titles on the other thread.

Dunno, but don't see why not. I assume the reasons companies give free games (which costs them money) are to get their names in the news, generate positive image, and get a sense of how "popular" they are via active logins. It could also indicate how effective a marketing move it is, cost-wise.

As such, they want to reward those who are watching them enough to know about their giveaways and ask for the games, while not rewarding those who made an acct 7 years ago and haven't logged on since. So I don't see why logging on through a browser wouldn't work.

I don't claim any inside knowledge or special understanding about this.

*shrug* I don't know why they chose any particular feature to include or not include. I don't have any special information, so anything I'd say about it would be pure, personal speculation.

Thanks. I learned about this earlier and launched. Quake 2 is now added. Confirmed working!
Time to install some old classic quake for some nostalgia!

It is worth noting to everyone
Even if you have logged on before during the quakecon weekend, you MUST log on again in Bethesda Launcher during these times to claim Quake 2 and 3.

For me, I don't leave my computer on 24/7 and the launcher is not pre-loaded. When I loaded it up, there was a price tag and the game was not automatically added.

The workaround was to add it as a favorite, then restart the app without having to log off. Galaxy now confirms it is added.
