[This is a sticky post, it will be visible in every single page of this thread. It has been published in October 2020.]

Our moderation team decided not to take a side in the discussion since this giveaway thread was created by the community and, as long as there are no forum rules violated, is up to you, dear Gogers, to decide its fate. We will not set giveaway rules, edit the OP's post, nor lock the whole thread.

However, to make it easier for newcomers to understand the situation (about the OP being inactive and other), I will stick my own post right above the first one.

You are, of course, free to create new threads to start anew and make your own, clear rules. At the same time, please stay reasonable when crating them, as multiple new duplicates might make it even more confusing for many Gogers.

That being said, here you can find a post with dxenija's community poll to have better understanding of the situation: CLICK.

At the time of writing, open giveaway threads are:
- Massive Giveaways Blog (this one)
- Free (temporary) keys giveaway central topic.
- Updated Itch.io giveaways

Be nice to each other *flies away*

TurdFerguson87: This isn't the Steam version...
avatar
TheMonkofDestiny: Which is why I addressed the part of your post about that exact version.
I already acknowledged the Steam version. I posted about the standalone version, AKA without DRM.

"(Yeah, I know it's 100% off on Steam rn, but it's just for down the road.)"
One more on itch, Nightmare Cave.

I know what you acknowledged and I was pointing out that my response was addressing the specific section of your post about that version and that it isn't just "rn" as you put it, but that it was made permanently free on Steam.

No, dude, stop. "rn" means "right now" as in "currently", which is still true because it is presently a fact at the moment.

You didn't need to point out anything at all. In addition, not everything is made "permanent" on Steam. I've seen free things slapped back with a price tag on it as well, so this is not the place to be making guarantees. Not to mention, Steam isn't relevant, since I was advertising for the DRM-free version. The code it comes with is the code to unlock the DLCs that the Steam version includes, I only simply acknowledged the fact that Steam was also an option to use, but the Humble distribution is at a limited discount for the remainder of the week, which isn't exactly free on that platform.

Sure I did. The software being free regardless of what distribution platform it's on is something you covered, but it's temporary at one place and permanently free on another. It's as valid a piece of news as any other, especially to the people who miss out on the temporary end but are still interested in checking out the software.

But you're right, dude, we both should just stop.

No, I said you should stop. I already said it is free right now because it just turned free when it wassn't previously and I was acknowledging that. I didn't need to say whether it is permanent or not because that doesn't always happen. It does not matter and you do not ever need to point it out spamming this thread. Just stop talking.

Except in this case, where it was verifiable, did matter and should've been covered in your initial post since you seem to be all about due diligence. I added the information, you wanted to nitpick it to death and now you want to act like a thread Gestapo about what can or can't be added to the thread. Take your own advice, buddy. Be well otherwise.

I swear I asked you to stop, and yet you keep going!

The deal I was posting about was NOT for the Steam version. I don't even care if it is free permanently or not. I acknowledged it was currently free on Steam as an aside, and moved on. There is NO NEED for diligence at all. It's irrelevant. It was already mentioned. You didn't need to say anything at all. I was posting about the one on Humble Bundle, and the Steam one is not a part of it.

This is not about policing the thread; the thread is not strictly for discussion. We're posting about giveaways, not discourse on whether a game is free permanently or not. Just STOP! You're already pissing me off and polluting this thread with your tiresome arguments. Enough!

This.

On another note, does anyone know when Total War: Shogun 2 is supposed to be free? It's the 27th but it's still listed as $30.
