Ekeko22: Am I the only one a bit dissapointed with this sale? I did buy some games and will probably buy more, but it seems like they are focusing too much on all the bundles, and I don't really care for those
No, I've found it a bit disappointing too. That being said, it might be partly to do with the fact that I own half of the GOG catalogue and the other half basically consists of overpriced "AAA indies" and uninteresting lo-fi indies. I generally add any games that I don't have or only have on Steam to my wishlist, and looking through that wishlist, there are very few games left that I actually genuinely want. Of the ones that I do want, very few have actually been reduced, many that have been reduced haven't received a substantial discount, or have only been discounted to a "normal" price from an absurdly high price.

I used to habitually buy GOG versions of games that I only had on Steam, but I stopped that when the situation got out of hand with releasing on Steam first, GOG later. Now I just pick a select few that I want DRM-free and go from there.

To be honest, I think we're past the deep discount era. The bulk of PC games may cost €10-20 new, but for the most part you're getting what you pay for. PC gaming is essentially a duopoly between Steam and GOG, with pricing controlled by the developers/publishers, so they have little reason to drop the prices.

And while my haul of "new" games during this sale basically consists of Rebel Galaxy and Transistor. I have such an obnoxiously large backlog that I'm fine with it.

Yeah, this is mainly my issue. I mean, I know Shovel Knight is supposed to be a great game, but I don't know, I expected a bit more than a 10% discount. Or games like Planescape Torment, which rarely get good discounts.

Edit: Also, I don't think we are really past the deep discount era, I did buy 5 great games for $12, after all. It's just that some publishers, take Activision for example, want to push gamse at absurd prices, such as TimeShift, Singularity, and GUN, which is something they've been known to do for quite some time.

I'm sick of the bundle discounts. Some of these bundles are huge. The main things the bundles are doing is discouraging me from buying games when I see the difference in discount price between the single game or the bundle discount. So far I have 15 lost sales during this sale, a few are DLC for the lost sale games. By lost sale I specifically mean games I would have purchased for the full bundle discount price, and not for games that just don't have a good enough price for me yet.

A bundle discount that I might find somewhat acceptable is a bundle that includes all parts of a game with it's DLC. The Team 17 bundle is a good example. If all The Escapists games and DLC were in it's own bundle for the better discount price, I would have purchased them all.

Yeah, it's insane that certain bundles expect you to throw out $100 for a couple of good games, and a lot of mediocre or average ones, and if you don't, then the prices of the individual games double or triple.

I agree with a lot of your post, and like you my backlog is obscenely large between Steam, GOG, my consoles and legacy console and computer emulators. I take more care in my purchases these days, and I'm bundled out. I only want to buy the games that I want, and not have to fill my library with anything extra that I don't.

To be fair, Shovel Knight is such a good game that I bought it on Humble upon release at full price, then on Wii U in a sale, then on disc for PS4 because I wanted a copy for posterity's sake. I really don't think I need it on GOG as well! :)

As for Planescape: Torment, well, that's what I'm talking about when I say that the days of deep discounts are over. I picked it up five years ago as part of a Hasbro sale for around $4, along with Icewind Dale 1 & 2, Baldur's Gate 1 & 2, and the like: 8 huge RPGs and a linear hack 'n slasher for $34.

Looking at the discounts you get for these games now, those discounts back in 2011 seem absolutely insanely good in retrospect. Many of the best discounts that I got back in the late 2000s/early 2010s are nowhere to be seen nowadays. I actually managed to get everything I wanted from the Steam Halloween Sale and pay it off completely with the revenue I got from selling trading cards I'd collected from PWYW bundles.

I've noticed Steam discounts have been lacking too. I can't remember the last time I purchased a game during a Steam sale. To be fair, I only buy on Steam when I can't get a game DRM free that I really want, and the price is ridiculously low. I don't mind not seeing deep discounts that much, I just will buy fewer games. My gripe is seeing big discounts in entire bundle turn into tiny discounts for a game or two.

I guess the silver lining is that I will end up spending less money on games overall, and stop adding to the clutter of my backlog.

About SK, I actually wanted to do the same, and buy it physical for those 2 consoles, but it seems every copy in my country disappeared, and that's why I'm a bit hesistant in buying it digital...

You do kind of prove your point, but maybe it's due those games not having that much of a demand now, probably because most of the people that want them, already have them. But to be fair, BG 1 & 2 and Icewind Dale, are all on sale for about 3-4 dollars each currently, so I really don't know what to think.

I think I haven't bought a game on Steam since, I don't know, last year. All my purchases have been exclusively Humble Bundles, and GOG (drm-free is great, but I also love the cheaper regional prices :)).
Yeah, to be fair the lack of good discounts is not that bad, I could use with some time for my backlog, but it's still a little disappointing.

Trust me, that game deserves it full price, let alone at -50% that is currently. ;)

About the Activision bundle, You need to buy 10 games for to have the 60% discount...
If You have one game in your library, it doesn't count.
