and [url=http://mightandmagic.wikia.com/wiki/Magog]Magog from one of the best games, Heroes of Might and Magic 3. So it's a game related thing, not a religion based one.

You speak of the Satanic Inferno castle with the little fire throwing piss-weak archers that look like little demons? Whatever dude, you just proved my point.

At least name the site after something tough and formidable like the death knight or the Power Lich. Thats a little "cooler" right? But lets face it, that wouldn't have the subliminal, biblical, satanic undertone now would it, and you guys are all about that subliminal crap right?

Nice fail dude, not sure how that justified anything but my point.

The website name was a short from "good old games" nothing to do with whatever you are talking about.

You do know that GoG is just the acronym for 'Good old Games', right? That's what the site was originally called, but when they started also selling new games they changed it. I'm sure they didn't mean any disrespect.

As a matter of fact a lot of people don't take acronyms into account when naming stuff. One of my neighbours used to work for "Freitag, Uhrmann & Claasen Kanzlei". Her bosses didn't understand why she always insisted on putting the 'Kanzlei' in front instead of in the end.

As for MaGoG: You do realize this is not an official GoG product? It's fanmade.

MRKGnao was just looking for a name that goes well with GoG and that is where JMich's explanation comes in.

Also, in my experience most people who aren't muslims themselves don't know much about Islam. It's entirely possible that the people behind GoG didn't know about that meaning at all.

I can understand you are offended, but it's always better to talk to people before you start throwing around accusations.

Look in the mirror bro, your the one calling people names, not me.

I might be a little angry and offended, but i haven't resorted to name calling, that's for children isn't it?

Since when "troll" is a big insult..

Anyway, I said that because your reasoning was.. totally absurd.
You felt offended by a name given by a fan to his search engine.
Even if he called it P00p or Devil.. who cares? (apart for the being an ugly name)

Also, about the satanic belief: it doesn't simply exist.
It's you that are "bringing religion and satanic speech into a place that has nothing to do with those things".
The site is called Gog (Good Old Games), so the fan chose a similar name from (a not very known) mythology.
That's it..

Amen

Seriously, I'm not buying this for a second.

EDIT: Man, this guy is all over the forum. I still don't buy this religion rant crap but he is quickly approaching me for the most over-posting most annoying person here. :P

Styer27: GoG and MaGog? I dont even find that remotely funny.

But a better question is, why bring religion and satanic speech into a place that has nothing to do with those things? This is a gaming site FFS, your satanic beliefs have no place here.

...

In the same way a Christian would get criticized and told not to bring religion here. I present this point, why is this satanic speech accepted, when it is clearly the same thing, from the opposite side of the coin?
I am deeply sorry that you find my wordplay offensive.

I am not Christian and the range of connotations you associate with Gog and Magog are entirely outside my own. It was never my intention to imbue my site with satanic overtones, nor with godly ones.

If I may suggest, please read this Wikipedia article; perhaps you will find it more appropriate:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gogmagog_%28folklore%29

I hope you find MaGog useful.

pablodusk: Feature request: Could you make use of Grargar's (or [url=https://www.gog.com/forum/general/list_of_gog_games_using_dosbox/page1]thread) of games using DOSBox? It would be very helpful to be able to search for DOSBox games through MaGog.

If you were to add a new search field (something like "powered by"), it could be used to track ScummVM and Wine games too. Although those can already be found through MaGog, since GOG actually mentions those in the system requirements or notes.
Good idea. I'll look into it.
Do you have similar resources for other engines?

I don't, but personally I'm more interested in the programs packaged with games rather than game engines. An exception might be AGS games, since I believe those can be made to run on platforms that GOG doesn't provide an installer for, similar to DOSBox/ScummVM games.

Thanks!

By the term "useful" do you mean strictly gogmixes with useful information, or others with less-useful-but-good-to-know info could be included too?
In the first case, I recommend gamefood's "There is even a demo!" gogmix, which is a comprehensive list of games on gog that have demos available so that people can try before they buy. And there's also Gog games without manuals-where to find them, but it might not be as useful, as it mostly links to walkthroughs instead...
In the second case, you might also like my own *shameless product placement, I know* Games that feature Greece/are inspired by Greece and Games involving a computer interface.
Surely there are many other useful gogmixes, but these are what I recalled from the top of my head-if I recall more I'll let you know...

P.S. Before I forget-the initiative to include Gogmixes in Magog is a really great one! Also, it reminds me why, while I was aware of the biblical connotations (but I didn't care, as I vastly prefer the New Testament over the old), I didn't mind Magog being called like that - it isn't as much Magog as in the biblical thingy for me, but "Ma Gog" -"my gog" in french (I'm versed in french, so I know that this would make gog a female, but this is a poetic license so it's all right)-as in "Gog, customized to my-and everybody else's- own needs"! So, in that sense, Magog is a very fitting name for this very customizable search engine...
