You don't know the half of it.
For example, tonight when I get home I will silently change "Blade of Darkness" from "regular game" to "removed game", yet again without a version change.

I just checked Amnesia: The Dark Descent and it resolves to the old game page. :-)

Going through reviews other than the first ones seem to work on the new game page layout to an extend, but not on the old game pages. :(

Yes. The Wayback Machine is of no help when a feature depends on some Ajax script. That's why on old pages (e.g. Amnesia) the price and additional reviews are inaccessible, while on new pages (e.g. Gothic 2) the price is visible and three-pages-worth of reviews are available.

Unfortunately it seems that The Wayback Machine sampled GOG exactly when the site was being changed on August 27, so for most games that were removed on September 2, the new format page is corrupted (which is why I chose the old format page link).

Still, better than nothing.

That's sound advice. Unfortunately, we no longer have access to the old game pages to save them.
But perhaps someone should start a GOG Archive Project to save the current pages for posterity.

I have a very small collection of gamecard pages saved locally, but I have no idea of the legality of a GOG Archive Project.

I very much doubt they'll have any issue with it. GOG have in general been very supportive of community-initiated initiatives, such as MaGog or Barefoot Essentials.

What would make things simpler and eliminate duplicate downloading, would be if GOG had the option to display all reviews, for a single game, on the game page.


Mozilla Archive Format (MAFF)
a webpage is saved in a .maff file; essentially a .zip file.

With 'MAFF' internal settings, keepscripts set to false, the resulting .maff file has scripts disabled. The screenshots gallery is unclickable. All screenshots are downloaded and available in the .maff (zip) file, just not clickable viewing the .maff file through a browser.

The game reviews are spread over multiple (pages) within the one game page. If one wanted all reviews for the example game, one would need to save the game page 21 times. Each page is 700-800 KB.

A few hours ago GOG has subtly changed the game page format in a way that -- you guessed it -- completely breaks MaGog. I will look into it tonight. Meanwhile, I have disabled MaGog's database updates, so its state is frozen to around midnight GMT November 4-5.

Really annoying that they're not clearing this with you beforehand... :)
