On that note, June 2016 will be MaGog's most active month yet, by far.
The previous record was December 2015, with 3,998 hits for the whole month.
So far in June (just 17 days), we're already at 5,249 hits (more than 800 today alone).
I knew from the very beginning that MaGog is an irresistible lady.

Great news, I'm happy to say that a few of those 800 hits were me.

Did you hit a lady?

I finished it last weekend (took me two days).

It was ok (3/5).

I found the notion of 'act like Poirot' unsatisfactory. First, suppose someone has never read a Poirot novel or seen a Poirot movie. Second, their concept of 'act like Poirot" was consistently 'aim for the best short term result', usually attempt to extract the most information from the person being interviewed, which is, IMHO, not at all 'like Poirot'. I refused to play along and often chose the opposite of what they obviously wanted me to.

I found the puzzles (clock, phonograph, etc.) artificial and unnecessary. I got stuck once (clock).

I enjoyed the storytelling and the animation. The "grey cells" and "inspection" gameplay elements weren't too bad and quite original for this kind of game, I think. They were easy, but that's ok, for this way they didn't break the flow of the narrative.

I found Poirot's voice acting absolutely horrible. From the "behind the scenes", I gather that they employed a French actor who (so they thought) "knew English well". I beg to differ. His mispronunciation of many words and place names was grating. And every time he said "brain cells" instead of "grey cells", I gnashed my teeth.

I liked how they based a lot of their visuals on the David Suchet TV series, which it just so happens I had just ended watching in its entirety.

Still, despite my misgivings, there are a lot worse games around. So, all in all, I'm glad I played it.

My score: 464/600 ego points, 38/50 trophies

You had mentioned that there was something you had expected and was missing. What was that?

It's interesting that we interpret the voice acting very differently. I'm convinced that the mistakes were deliberate to add to the character. I enjoy movies and TV series that play with different accents (e.g. ‘Allo ‘Allo which uses different accents to represent people speaking German/French/English or the hilariouly broken German in Indiana Jones movies).

I agree that the implementation of ego point system could have been better, but the idea was (and is) nice. It didn't influence my play style, but I noticed that it “punished” some of my actions that could be described ungentleman-like.

I don't know how I got the impression, but I expected a larger number of different endings i.e. the possibility to fail to find the culprit.

Perhaps you're right. I initially thought the same, but as it progressed I felt it's more likely to be unintentional.

For example, by this point, Poirot is already 19 years or so in England; he should know how to pronounce Leicester. I felt that the actor himself didn't know.

I see. I'm not a great fan of multiple endings, so I never miss them. I understand that this game has two endings. I saw the peaceful one.

Well then, it shouldn't come as a surprise that I hit on MaGog, and more than once; she is irresistible, after all.

I had a note a couple of owned games couldn't be identified. Perhaps they've been removed - I'm not sure.

I know some people that live in Germany for a long time (some even more than 20 years) and you can still hear their origin. It might be exaggerated in order to show the player that Poirot is a French guy. This reminds me of the tech support hotline in “The IT Crowd”: youtube link. The director told the actor to “act more french” again and again until the scene ended up like it did.

It would be interesting to hear the actor in another role.

Usually I'm not a fan of multiple endings as well, but in this case it would have been interesting. I also got the peaceful ending.
