eric5h5: If only some kind of device, or..."engine," let's call it, existed to look for things, to "search," one might say. Imagine how much time that would save! Sadly, I suspect such technology will ever be out of the reach of mere mortals.
Yep, and if only it worked like it should.
So now you are calling me a liar. That's very polite of you.
eric5h5: Hmm. In any case, as I'm sure you know, it's logically impossible to prove a negative, thus the onus is upon the one making a claim to provide proof thereof. And it's considered quite rude to expect others to do the work for you.
Let's get a few facts straight.
1) I am a fan of Linux. In fact I have hundreds of Linux versions from GOG on a few backup drives.
2) I shared to be helpful ... no other agenda.
3) I believe what I claimed to be true, and don't feel the need to prove it to others, because I am completely convinced myself.
4) Others as always are free to believe or not.
5) If what I have claimed is not backed up sufficiently for whoever reads it, then either do some research themself or just don't believe me.
6) No-one is forcing anyone to believe what someone else posts.
7) GOG is the ultimate arbiter in this, so if you feel my claim is false, check with them.
8) I would actually be pleased to be wrong ... if a bit bashful about looking silly ... even though I still stand by what I recall reading many times.
firstpastthepost: Gog did announce official Linux support for a handful of games a few years ago:
https://www.gog.com/forum/general/gogcom_now_supports_linux I don't recall seeing anything official saying they no longer support the original games they specified or anything saying they were extending the support to additional titles.
The term 'Support' can be taken in more than one way, so it can be very subjective to the context.
If GOG provide a version of a game that will work with Ubuntu out-of-the-box, then you can say they are supporting Ubuntu for that game and all those that use Ubuntu that buy that game.
Then there is support for if you run into trouble with installing or playing that game on Ubuntu. If that is not provided then one can rightly claim there is no support ... as in troubleshooting support ... which is all I am claiming with my posts.
Do GOG currently employ a Linux guru to help customers with issues?
I don't doubt there are some GOG staff, who have some Linux knowledge or skill, and perhaps help with simple issues. But can you really call that Linux Support?
