I guess we should all be like some other folks in here and instead of having a sense of humor about our illnesses, hang out all day and try to elicit sympathy for them.

To be fair as far as I'm concerned Hawking beat ALS because of the age at which he died.

Hawkins beat everything. The guy is the closest anyone of this race will ever come to being an actual deity.

The one thing I was disappointed in Hawkins was his assertion that if an alien race came here it would be either to conquer us or suck us dry of our resources. It was something like that. I was so disappointed that a smart man such as him would fall to such an obvious bias, of considering they would be us at our worst. I'm not saying not to be guarded but jeez.

Maybe he meant that we deserve it, and that it would be proof of their enlightenment.

I actually saw something about that on History, or Discover, or NatGeo. The show was a "what if" regarding alien invasion. At the beginning of the show they posed the question, why do so many assume that a civilization so far advanced from ours is going to want to conquer and destroy the lesser? The answer was because the history of our own species shows this to be the case. The most ruthless, war mongering empires throughout history were also the most technologically superior.
