I recently bought Grim Dawn and of course it wont leave the opening screen when I tell it to.

I tried Googling for a solution because I know I can't be the only one this has happened to. I tried all of the "fixes" I found but had no luck.

Is there a forum somewhere for Grim Dawn? I tried Customer Service but that was like a merry go round of bitter disappointment.

thanks for any help

What system are you playing on, did you update drivers, install requisite packages? Are you using galaxy? With expansion packs or mods? I have it installed on various systems with various mods no problems.
Thanks very much.

win 10 home totally updated
ntel(R) Core(TM) i7-4770 CPU @ 3.40GHz 3.40 GHz
Nvideaea RTX 2060 Fully updated
no MODs

It came with all DLCs bundled.
I'm using the Galaxy gateway and I've tried launching directly as administrator.

I've checked my firewall permissions it's not listed as blocked or allowed.

I used options to change display res and type, full screen, and so on.

I've done more but this isn't the proper place for it and I don't want to upset anyone by being OT.

I wouldn’t worry about being OT, sure sub forums are the main place, however most are dead. So your system is fine to run it all up to spec. Windows home however flags issues to me. I would never go for anything other than pro as you lose a lot of control.
What I would do, download the offline installers, this is an exe and some bin files from the website (under your account find the game and expand download offline installers). Shut galaxy down completely (or remove it fully). Now install the game using the downloaded files to a folder something like c:/mygames, this avoids windows protection issues. You should not need internet or connection to install or run this. (Probably need to remove the previous install). Also, you download each of the dlcs separately this way (and can keep/backup your files like this), so you can try running after just installing base game. Also, maybe try disabling internet and antivirus and then run offline.

Thank you for the help. This sounds like way more effort than I'm willing to put in for a game I'm not even sure if I'd like or not. I'm just going to ask for a refund. I'm playing Disciples Liberation
at the moment. I do like it a lot, Not sure of what I'm doing but so far everything's working out so far.

I'd suggest using Windows 7 instead, but issues trying to get USB 3 (which is the default anymore) seems to be an issue.

Newer versions of windows tend to have VERY big compatibility issues, things work and then updated and then it doesn't work anymore. I don't know what they are thinking anymore with how they are pushing 8/10/11.

Hmmm... refuses to skip or refuses to work? Or some part of the game just stops working?

Regardless, if it misbehaves enough times i'd forcibly kill the program and leave it alone. If it is enough of an issue where you can't play it, ask for support and maybe a refund. Though maybe a workaround, hotfix bugfix or something else may come up (Though support will ask you to make sure all your drivers are up to date and little else unless there's some feature/setting to change).

Once you get used to not using a client and using just the install files you will find it very easy and do it naturally all the time, it is the point of GOG and drm free, you have the installers and they are yours to keep, no reliance on third parties or the internet. Unfortunately clients are popular as they dumb everything down.
You should be able to get a refund or you can ask crate help to look at it. Me, I highly recommend keeping it, it’s probably the best aRPG you can get your hands on and also has a load of mods to change it. As I mentioned above, I have had it installed on loads of different systems and operating systems no problem, so would expect it to be a specific issue you have and that might affect other games.

People use Galaxy for convenience and easiness.
You suggested to an old guy to do a mess just because you hate clients.
And now he refunded..

Yeah, he's surely going to install Win7 now.. what advice is this..

Galaxy is an additional complication which has been proven before to cause issues. Of course it should be the first thing you shut down and try again looking for issues and errors that could be hidden.
Sure, if suggesting to learn some basic computing is a “mess” rather than justly dumbly mashing a play button then sure I am 100% behind it. Clients are a dumb layer over some basic computing techniques which simply cause more issues than needed and reduce people’s own talents, hence should not have place on a computer.

But yes, go ahead and carrying on bashing anyone else on thread without providing any assistance, just the kind of client based steam fanboys that this forum is full of!

Steam fanboy lol.. I don't even use it.
Also, there's no point in providing assistance anymore, since you scared him into refunding.

But it is true that Galaxy can cause issues, no? Installing the game the old-fashioned way is not only the point of this store and the reason to buy from here...it is a good way to rule out what the potential problem is/was. My first suggestion would be to not use the "optional" client too.

It may seem a little odd to read in text for those not used to it, but the process of downloading and using the offline installer is quite manageable...for those a bit less into tech and just want to play, I would say this is where Support could come in and help such users learn how to use the offline installer.

What a great way that would be to foster brand loyalty!; helping the user and even teaching them something. But apparently it is better to just grant nigh-endless Cyberpunk refunds, a game where content is locked behind an online Galaxy requirement. Yes, that is how a DRM-free store should be, ha-ha.

As the implicated old guy I'd like to say I know my way around my rig. I've been playing games and building my own systems before a lot of you took your first bite of solid food,

I had no problems understanding or doing any of the things suggested to me. I was very grateful for all of the helpful suggestions.

As I said, I didn't think all the effort I was putting into getting this game to work were worth it since I wasn't sure I'd like it that much. I'm currently playing Disciples Liberation, Dragon's Dogma, Mech Warrior 5 Mercs and a couple others.

Don't think for a minute anyone "scared me off" being to high tech for me.

Oh I almost forgot why I came here today, Maybe I'm not starting the game right. I clicked "New Campaign" then accept. There's a "Start" button that's greyed out. Nothing I've done has lit that puppy up. I didn't even notice it til yesterday. My eyes aren't what they used to be.

One last bit, I reinstalled just the vanilla game with no DLCs and still no workies even using run as admin. I want to stop messing with this but my stubborn problem solver part won't let me.
